Should I buy Legendary? - Specific questions (AUS)

(chubbabsey) #1

Hello, I was a HUGE fan of Brink and have discovered DIRTYBOMB whilst looking for info on a sequel. I am extremely excited by the prospect of playing DIRTYBOMB (maybe even springing for a Contributor or VIP Founder pack) and the concept of helping the game reach its potential in some small way. However, I have two very specific questions:

  1. Does the game have Gamepad/Dual Stick support?

*I came to Brink via the XBox, however, I do have a high end PC that easily meets the spec requirements, I just prefer playing FPS games with a game pad.

  1. Living in Australia, will lag issues render the game unplayable in Alpha stage?

*Begin an avid gamer and FPS fan I am familiar with the lag issues that living in Australia presents, and can tolerate these, probably even lag which is somewhat more of an issue at Alpha stage, but I cannot justified paying for alpha access that would be unplayable.

Thanks for your time.

any pack will get you access to the milestone videos on gameplay, art passes, effects etc.

there are AUS servers as we speak, as well as one in Singapore

at the moment I’m unsure of controller support but will be available on release unless things have changed,
SD are big fans of accessibility

Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated.

It is great to hear that they have AUS servers, that moves me one step closer to signing up!

Is there anyway I can get confirmation on Gamepad support?

Cheers.

Be aware that this is an alpha. And that alpha doesn’t mean hundreds of people playing the game. There are indeed AUS servers, but I have never seen a person on them.

I know that there are some Australian players in alpha, but they mostly play on european servers as those have players on them.

About gamepads. I tried playing the game with a xbox 360 controller and it works, but, at this moment, you will have to bind the buttons yourself (in options).

Thank you for another helpful reply!

I understand that the game is currently in alpha, and am aware of the conditions this presents. I don’t really care if there are actually AUS servers, this is just a good sign that poor old AUS is at least being looked after . Quite happy to play on Euro servers or US, makes no difference as long as lag is not a game breaker.

Also info about the gamepad is much appreciated, no issue with binding my own buttons, that is fine… Have you found it enjoyable to play with a gamepad?

Thanks again.

I can’t really say, as I tested in on an empty server. (game seems to works good with a gamepad)

But I think I wouldn’t enjoy it, because you will have such a big disadvantage playing against people with a mouse + keyboard. Not to mention that a large part of the players in the alpha, have some kind of competitive background in PC gaming, so they are better than the average Joe. With that in mind, I wouldn’t enjoy playing against them with a gamepad and an Australian ping…

Get out…

I seriously hope you were joking there

Despite all its flaws, Brink showed a lot of people that FPS could be about other things than CTF or TDM. It died a horrible death for its sins, but it planted the idea of objective-based teamplay in the head of many and I’m sure chubbabsey and I can’t be the only ones who will find their way here.

Like it or not you can be sure that a lot of Brink fans will be looking for DB to be what Brink failed to be. But the fact that we liked that game despite its flaws doesn’t mean we want to see them recreated in DB thought. Any and all improvements will be welcome

I am going to answer your question with another couple of questions.

Do you want to spend that money on helping to shape a game?
Are you prepared to play with a high ping/few players?
Are you in it for the game play or the feedback?

If your answers are possitive to 2/3 of those. I will see you in the alpha

Have you played ET and QW? Had you had, you’d have no such argument, as it was the case - the splash damage’s approach to the “tactical shooter” idea - long before Brink.

And what Brink has introduced, was a fullhand of mistakes and, as many points out, too short development time(that’s why I’d like to ask everyone to avoid pressing on SD to haste with DB release, if they listen we likely have another bad game coming).

Some ppl still plays ET:QW, why might you want to give it a try?

(DB Genome editor) #11

I’m not saying Bring was the first of the genre, but I had never heard of W:ET, ET:QW or even SD before I came across Brink during its development phase,so for me that’s the game that introduced me to the concept and I’m sure I’m not the only one out there.

If you want DB to succeed and thrive, you’ll need more that just the old-timers from W:ET and ET:QW supporting it. A lot of people were disappointed by Brink but still saw the potential for something better than the CoD and BF of this world, and you want these people to get on board DB.

Needless to say all that. Although I don’t really see why being the former player of COD/ET shall be found important when we can describe the target customer generically.

Have a good day.

PS: You might really find ET:QW quite interesting, be warned: but 1-3 servers alive, yet it does not feel problematic in practice.

Stop derailing the thread guys!

Get the pack if you want to! The Aussies who play with us on the Euro servers have said that the game is very playable at a high ping.

(Nail) #14

I’ve played on Aus server w/200+ ping, worked
fine

(Falcon.PL) #15

Back to the topic. Rather than playing at 200 ping I’d rather call some friends if they are maybe interested in buying that too, so you can play together in tolerable conditions.Probability of getting fun out of high ping is unknown since the game mechanics are unknown to large extend. At the same time probability of having good fun when playing with right people is known and high even for not fully polished games, as long as you have VOIP.

Safe choice - organize AUS group of players and enjoy fine ping conditions.

I would reply positively to ALL these questions!

Thanks all for the replies (and the herding of some back on topic).

Will consider buying very seriously now.

I am glad to hear so, decent feedback at this stage of the game will help move things along swiftly. Hope to see you on the alpha as you have a possive attitude.

(ZeroseCorp) #18

yes you can map a whole 360 controller but there’s no sensitivity adjustment and you will get ‘OWNED’ by board and mouse users

the alpha players are hardcore pc players from the matches i played and i love fps with controller but i hand to use my mouse for aiming and xbox controller for movement.
