Should Dirty Bomb be Free-to-Play once officially released?
You can already purchase things for real money, so the economic system is here. I don’t see why things should change.
This game need population to survive, and not keeping it f2p is not going to be a smart move.
For how much they charge for everything else, if it wasn’t FtP it wouldn’t get played by many people.
[Insert intelligent and TL;DR post about how DB can only profit from being F2P]
If it isn’t free-to-play, chances are, it won’t maintain a playerbase for very long. You can go ahead and look up dozens of games that either died, or were forced to go to the free-to-play model. I believe there’s still a few left on Steam that have just refused to go F2P, yet they have no playerbase or a very small one at that.
Another issue is that if you had to purchase the game, there wouldn’t be any updates for it or they’d be really overpriced bullshit DLCs like most games are doing. A free-to-play model can last a long time in a game, but a purchase-to-play simply does not unless it’s coming from a major company with tons of advertisements (at least in this day and age).
What’s sad is that this game will eventually succumb to the atrocity plaguing the gaming industry; micro-transactions. I’m talking about all-out micro-transactions. You will have to pay to actually enjoy the game, and you’ll need to keep paying. It’s gonna suck seeing them go this route, but it’s the inevitable.
Because I should totally pay to play a game after I’ve spent money on it while playing it for free.
Aw yiss.

I’m a simple man i see boobies i press like
If a game has microtransactions and DLC it’s already released in my eyes.
Along that, even if the game went buy-to-play then Splash Damage would need a different publisher or self-publish. As Nexon is a free-to-play company.

forever you say… just think of it 50 years later your stilling playing this… wait don’t that’s weird
It makes no sense for someone to have an economic advantage over someone else. I mean, you can purchase Cases, Boosters and such, but it doesn’t give you an advantage in-game. It’s just for the looks of it (Silvers, Golds, Cobalts)
I don’t think it will ever be “officially” released. It will remain in beta forever and I’m cool with that.

True, many games today work like that…cough World of Tanks cough
And why not!
Dirty bomb attracted a lot of players being F2p. Eventually i bought a biginner’s pack because i liked this game. It is not pay to win game and i like it even more cause of that. So in my opinion to keep community and balance, this game has to stay free to play.
But once it is released, why not make additional content for it: Single player/CO-OP PVE game mode, Survival game mode, Death match/Capture intel game modes, some story lines, ect. All in all - continue develop the game and get money for it.
If there was a some kind of officieal map creator, community could just support itself with good and interesting maps, which is a content that requires minimal time and money investments from SD: just test it, may be change a little, add in beta test and than in game.
^ Thats not a terrible idea, but I’ll take anything that gives me some more lore. I’m a total lore junkie, and this game has some great potential for awesome character interaction.
