He’s barely useful in his current state. - Mainly the issue of speed (being unable to keep up a few of his primary targets) with and visibility when moving, or even standing still. I don’t care how squishy he ends up after these modifications. He’s meant to sneak behind enemy lines. Currently, he can not. (Compare the merc role call video to his current situation. ‘sneak through enemy lines undetected’ only applies if the enemy is under level 10 or blind.)
Should Devs Change Phantom?
He’s useful, but just more high skill requirement than before. He also can keep up with his targets, but he cannot be slashing at the same time. It’s frustrating and a small speed buff could help close the gap a tad faster. Now I must agree on his flanking abilities being independent of the cloak. Actually I’ve had more success flanking with him without cloak than with it, as without it, people don’t hear me and once I’m flanking or behind enemy lines, the enemies are not looking at me anyway.
That’s pretty much how I use him. I use the armor to cross gaps/not be targeted/absorb shots and then turn it off immediately. If I run into unexpected people I either fight or I turn it on while running. If I don’t I keep going until I’m in a good position to setup for backrage kills and either I turn it on when it doesn’t matter and they will have no time to react or I just sit still with it on, draining slowly and you can’t hear it/see it unless you’re right on top of them (especially when hiding in certain spots). If you’re trying to melee with your cloak up you will be heard and punished. Another reason why melee just isn’t a good idea on Phantom when you could easily shoot somebody from cover and kill them faster with less chances of 3 people swarming you immediately.
Even if you’re crouch walking while cloaked, skilled players will see you. At this point, you may as well choose proxy with her smg and have better mobility and escape options if your goal is flanking.
I see where SD were going but theres a reason why the way Refractive Armor works isn’t common.
The main issue is that the way his Refractive Armor currently works it is neither an effective armor or an effective cloak.
Many suggest deviding these into two abilities, a very effective cloak and a very effective armor, but my thoughts on changing him are much more simple and straight foward
My suggestion for the armor/health people complain about would be giving him back the 120 health or 125 tops, but no more armor.
The reason why this would make sense is that health is reflected on the characters by how much armor the character in question is wearing and Phantom is really armored, but keeping his current speed as a passive attribute to him, suggesting his armor, while very protective is still light due to the high quality prototype technological nature of it.
As for Refractive Armor in on itself; Just make an invisibility cloak, an effective one. Less visible and noise and maybe set to a constant set drainage speed rather than have it based on how fast Phantom would be moving, but deactivated instantly when detected like before, rather than staying invisible with a red diamond over one’s head.
Phantom is a closer oriented Recon but he lacks any way to actually recon, sure a teammate with a mic would be a great idea but sometimes such co-operation isn’t common.
In comes the Comm’s hack I mentioned earlier which would fit his Bio mentions not trusting him with your phone.
My idea on Comm’s hack would be that it’d have a longer lasting and largest area of effect at the price of much larger cooldownthan other.
For those who have no clue how it works, In Brink an Operative character would go up to a downed enemy and start a quick 2.5 seconds “Comms Hack” which would instantly detect all enemy players instant, maybe having a decay on enemy players of around 5 seconds so if someone was drop themselves Phantom would still be able to interact with the corpse, the only exception i think would be if they’ve been finished or gibbed.
I think the main thing that made phantom overpowered before was just his insane melee. Beyblading and you could still deal damage after you miss your initial lunge.
Sure right now, maybe his cloak should do it’s job properly. I read somewhere that it’s more visible in darkness or something. Make it more consistent and get rid of that stupid humming, or at least make it less audible. If you aren’t sprinting you’re actually decently invisible, at least if they aren’t looking directly at you.
Audio que for activating cloak is okay. Just means you can’t activate cloak behind someone and get the full shield in case they notice you.
Shield is fine, it gives him an escape. It can only take a few hits to start with, and the shield varies on how long you used the cloak anyway. Maybe they could reduce the amount of hits the shield could take.
These changes to cloak and perhaps melee changes. Maybe the lunge could deal damage for a longer time. Similar to his first release but shorter. In between now and before. But keep the turn speed limit so you can’t beyblade.
I kind of like phantom the way he is right now. He fits the recon role and is unique. These are just my dream changes which I think will help phantom as he is right now.
