Should Comp have bigger teams??

(FeralFlame) #1

I think 5v5 is to little if the team isnt coordinated or in a queue together. I think there should be an option or mabye just make it a 6v6

(Faraleth) #2

The maps are specifically designed for 5vs5 teams, so I think 5vs5 is perfectly manageable and enjoyable for competitive teams. The only reason pub servers have higher player counts is to compensate for lack of co-ordination, with brute force.

I see your point but i still think maybe just an option for a bigger team would be better, but then the problem with that is matchmaking would probably still take forever. But thanks for your thoughts on this!

5v5 is a perfect amount for teamwork and communication in this game, not to mention the whole game is designed around 5v5. Add one additional player and suddenly you’ve got an extra assault, recon or full time engineer who can break map balance.

I guess its better once you get out of silver on the whole teamwork thing. its always 2 snipers and 2 proxies leaving me with either Sparks or Fragger. Is it better in the gold/cobalt/elite

5v5 is fine, there’s no need to go any higher, otherwise you will have 2 medics, 2 assaults, and 2 others who switch off to different mercs. I guarantee that.

(FeralFlame) #7

That would allow for more freedom on what merc to play though.

But it would also create a situation, especially with how the maps are designed (even Dome), for being able to defend much easier. Offense would become much harder because you could cover so many more options.

On the flip side it would allow the merc meta to change and breathe a bit more since right now you will always have a Fragger and two medics and an engineer with only one spot being left open to a rotating merc (Nader, Vassili, second engineer).

There are positives of the game being 6v6 but the amount of defensive options it gives organized teams would outweigh the benefits I think.

Yea it would seem a little but unbalanced for defense.

It gets miles better if you run with your own premade. Can’t say otherwise.

(Litego) #11

Yeah I don’t think rank matters, you need a pre-made with voice com. Your team should be coordinated in comp, that’s the point.

(Feley) #12

I would rather 5v5 pubs than 6v6 comp

(Ballto) #13

it would be unbalanced because clans. Say an MLGMLGMLG clan queues for an 8v8 together already knowing their class composition.

If i were them, i would have this team for defense

Aura
Sparks
Stoker
Proxy
Fletcher
Rhino
Redeye

And on attack,
Sparks
Sawbones
Arty
Stoker
Nader
Proxy (or fletcher)
Redeye
Fragger (or rhino/skyhammer)

you can cover all options with each person having two mercs they WILL play and another merc they might play if needed. in a 5v5 an organized clan will still probably win, but it will not be as easy a stomp as you still need to make harder decisions on class composition

yea i see your point thanks for commenting on this!

I try to man but my team is either mic-less or just really loves to snipe/troll by standing in doorways
