Should all of phantoms load outs have the katana

(stormcloudLoyalist) #1

I find it very annoying that phantom is advertised as a ninja class with a katana but only 3 of them have the katana. Without the katana the melee aspect of phantom makes him useless

(yusayu) #2

Phantom has SMGs too, he’s not a melee merc.

(Fuze) #3

Considering that the Katana use to be exclusive to Phantom and the fact that he was recently nerfed to the point that no one (but me) tends to use him now, I say sure, give a reason for people to play him now. Of course the Katana was also nerfed, but it’s still cool to use.

(Mister__Wiggles) #4

No because it would encourage more people to run around stabbing people. He has the strongest guns in the game, use them.

No, but it’d be really freaking cool if the knife loadouts offered some neat perks.

Like Mechanic or something, or some of the tougher perks like Toughness and Unshakable.

(SirSwag) #6

Phantom is his katana. It’s his signature weapon. No one who plays phantom wants anything else.

Hear, hear! As much as I like the sword it should not be a defining characteristic of Phantom. However, and unfortunately, only the sword loadouts come with Undercover. Would be nice to have something similar to the C42 loadout but with Undercover, replacing either Enigma or Flying Big; or a knife version of the BL94 but with a better primary and the Beckhill Knife.

(gg2ez) #8

I only voted “yes” because I’d rather have a katana and I’m biased :kissing:

In all seriousness, it is kind of disappointing when you don’t get the Katana but getting a knife loadout really reminds you to use your gun, which is good!

Speak for yourself. Also, that Katana is not a special ability nor is it unique to Phantom. Other mercs will have it in the future.

(Xan) #10

they should make katana a ability of phantom, just like minigun or grenade launcher

(Grave_Knight) #11

Cause waving around a heavy saber in an unskilled manner is so special and unique (seriously, the guy over swings so much). I rather they give Phantom something a bit more useful than try to turn the katana into a power. Like target marking or something.

(Haki) #12

There should be at least 1-2 loadouts without the katana for the simple reason that you run ever so slightly faster with a knife instead of the katana.
Pairing up the knife with double time(and maybe undercover  ) and you got yourself a nice phantom loadout

(Sir_Slam) #13

It’s like getting a ham sandwich without cheese. I mean, you can still do it, but it’s not as fun.

And like whatsyurdeal meantioned, his other cards aren’t compensated for having knives. Hell, the silver card I pulled has his sword, the KEK, chopper and undercover. Wtf is card balance?

Could you imagine if that card had Drilled or Untrackable instead of Cool?

(SpinnerzNQ) #15

If the katana is the only reason people wanna play Phantom, then they’re not playing Phantom right.

Wait what? What merc besides Phantom would get the Katana?

There have been no official word of any merc besides Phantom that will have the Katana. However, they have explicitly stated that Phantom is the FIRST merc to be given the Katana hinting that in the future another Merc might have the Katana.

(Amerika) #18

What Grave Knight said. They said from the very beginning that other mercs will get the Katana and the Kukri in the future. Phantom, even by his lore, is not tied to his Katana much. It’s mostly just a holdover from alpha when SD tried to make a melee character work and then couldn’t make it balanced (he was either broken in an OP way or a worthless way). So they turned him into a recon but decided not to give him a spotting ability for reasons that will forever remain a mystery to me I think. The Katana is just another melee weapon and will not be unique to him.

(HoopleDoople) #19

No, but Phantom and his loadouts do need a total rework. I’d like to see him move away from the assassin/pub-stomper role and into the recon role as a stealthy scout. I’d probably take away his ability to attack from stealth and instead allow him to mark enemies while stealthed. His cloak would also need to be significantly less visible. Finally, it might be worth adding a secondary ability to Phantom if he’s still underpowered.

(Amerika) #20

That’s pretty much my ideal fix for him. Increase his stealth ability but do not allow him to attack directly out of stealth to avoid him being a cheap kill type of merc. And give him the ability to mark players similar to how the battlefield series works or simply mark people he looks at while he is in stealth instead of requiring a button press. Then maybe give him another secondary that is the EMP that has been discussed so it can either take down or temporarily disable deployables.

I personally think that would make him work well in high-end 5v5 play, would keep him from being a cheap merc (well, he’d still be kind of cheap due to stealth), encourage intelligent play and setting up kills and just make him fun and useful overall for the team.

That’s my personal dream for him anyway.
