Should all Mercs cost get balanced?

(GatoCommodore) #1

the thing is with the merc cost it affects the new players wether they will learn the game mechanics and maps

if all the mercs are lowered into 30.000 new player might consider playing mercs like fragger or kira as starter mercs and more likely to learn the maps.

if all merc cost are upped into 50.000 new players might leave early but it also save them from playing bad vassilli early on their learning period.

this is my opinion please state your reason

I’m inclined to make it so that at least one (not free) merc is 30,000 credits. We already have one for several classes:

•Arty for Fire Support
•Proxy for Engineer
•Vassili for Recon

Now we just need one for medic and assault!
How about:

•Fragger for Assault
•Sawbonez for Medic

Otherwise I think they should all be 50,000.

You should have a ‘its fine’ button really.

Increase Vassilli to 100,000 credits and it will work.

There should be a tutorial for each merc on the table so that players are able to play them correctly.

Not a bad idea, perhaps a small tutorial video built into the game explaining their abilities.

They already have the merc roll call videos though which explain abilities pretty well.

This is exactly what I said a few months ago ^^^
Would be nice if the tutorial was reworked (again) and include a section for medics (heal and revive), fire support (disable EV and give ammo) and engineers (plant/repair/defuse) and then you will be able to do a special tutorial for a merc you want. For example: Phoenix tutorial will teach you to self revive and how Phoenix’s heal works, as well as show you how to revive people again

Tier costs might work to be fair.

Phoenix / Sawbonez / Arty / Proxy / Bush at 30,000
Stoker / Fragger / Nader / Kira / Redeye at 40,000
Sparks / Aimee / Vas / Rhino / Thunder / Phantom at 50,000

Fletcher at 50,001, because “he’s the best so he obviously costs the most”.

Move the harder-for-new-players-to-use mercs into the upper costs, while the more support or objective focused mercs get lowered costs, with two assault and a easy to use recon in the mid tier for players who want something with more punch to it but don’t want to go for another 20k credits.

It’s pretty much a guarantee that SD will never drop all mercs to 30,000 due to how their entire system is built, this is the next best thing in a way. Preferable to all of them being 50,000.

@Jodker @FrostyVampire

Maybe have it so that when you purchase a merc and it gives you that dumba** “New Merc” screen, it would actually make that screen practical by making a big obvious “Take a Tutorial for This Merc” button that would take you to a short, customized tutorial for that merc. You’ll only even need 17 tutorials.

(frostyvampire) #12

@Dr_Plantboss
That could be a thing too.
But you should still be able to do the tutorial without owning the merc to see what they are about and if you think their playstyle suits you (instead of waiting a year for them to be on a free rotation). And you should be able to redo the merc tutorial after buying the merc if you haven’t played in a while or accidentally didn’t press the button

I’m always in favor of reducing grind. I also think the amount of free mercs should be expanded; old mercs should get discounted to 30k, but Fragger and Bushwhacker ought to get put on the “free” list like Aura and Skyhammer so new players get access to an Engineer and a Slayer, and thereby have options.

Could do Nader instead of Fragger as she’s easier to play. But I don’t think Vasili should be free, per se. New players ought to be discouraged from playing Recon/Sniper as it’s harder to do.
