Should AFK/idle votes in PUB be available to both teams?

(kopyright) #1

Whenever a player is idle for more than x (120?) seconds Dirty Bomb calls a vote for the remaining team members to kick said player from their team. However, more often than not this vote does not pass, either because not enough people know how to actually cast a vote, or because they don’t know what this player should be kicked for.

Would it really be that bad if AFK votes would accept votes from both teams rather than just the affected one? The possibilites of abuse would be quite small since this particular vote is only called by the game itself. If the enemy team has no interest in even numbers then nothing is lost, but if there are just one or two people on the enemy team who actually care about a more balanced match they could easily help making room for actively participating players.

Also, maybe the "Kick " notifier could include “for being AFK” to better communicate this?

The AFK vote shouldn’t be to kick from the server, but to allow to stay on the server.

Agreed.

That’s another solution of course, especially on servers where you are playing with friends.

Trouble I see with that is the opposing team could easily abuse it and vote no to kick just for a easier match.

Instead of asking for the other team’s input and allowing potential abuse, just kick the person from the server instantly, or reduce the amount of votes requited.

A vote for them to stay is probably the best bet, but still.

I rather choose the latter option. There’s sometime this instance when I need to answer a call and open the front door in case of a guest. Sometimes it took 3-5 minutes, much to my dismay

But that wouldn’t be any worse than the current situation where they can’t vote in the first place. I probably should have noted that the number of votes required should stay the same so it doesn’t need as many ‘Yes’ votes as a team shuffle for example.

The one issue I could see with this idea is that all other votes ask for the player’s input to trigger an event (kick a player from your team, initiate a team shuffle etc.) whereas this would be a vote to prevent something from happening which would be rather inconsistent from a UI point of view.

Meh, doesn’t really make a difference. Programming wise, it shouldn’t be difficult. Player wise, there aren’t a lot of votes anyways. It’s not like it’s hard to figure out how they work.
Besides, even if someone does mistake it and vote for them to stay, that’s what the other players are here to vote for. And it wouldn’t make as much of a difference anyways as the players who currently don’t notice votes anyways.

@MarsRover nailed it @stayfreshshoe

allowing opposite team to vote is silly:

  • it either still requires 50% of one team’s side to vote yes, effectively causing 25% super low threshold
  • it requires 50% of total server population, making it too high a threshold
  • it allows enemy team to kick a player, in order to acquire a number advantage

How is it an advantage if this player is AFK anyway? If anything they would help make room for another active player to join the match.

Nevertheless, I agree that @MarsRover had the best idea.

very often a player is afk for that minute, but will be back soon

a new player might join, but they very well may not; ive had numerous rounds going for10-15min without additional players joining

It could have been an announced AFK to the team, who was fine with it, yet the opposing team suddenly would get a say and be able to get rid of a player anyways. If players don’t know how to vote or why (despite the pop-up stating why and to hit page up or page down to cast a vote…) they should be taught by their teammates, not a choice like that be put in the opponents’ hands.

This would be a very welcome change.
When the vote pops up, I check the scoreboard to see if the player has 0 score.
If not, then I check the chat to see who called the vote (another player, or the server) - often have to bring it up manually, because the original message disappeared by the time I notice the vote.

If another player called the vote, I don’t vote or vote no, because I’m not a fan of kicking that lvl3 botscoring Vassili to have an easier game. Everyone has to learn somehow - I remember how it felt to play Quake 3 Arena the first time. It was also my first FPS, you can imagine how well it went…
But at least it had a FFA mode so I didn’t made my team lose.

Pubs is casual, people vote or don’t vote for pointless things. Right now you can win 100% of your pubs game by just knowing when to switch team. So who cares?

Ranked is the solution. Play it. Has been consistently more balanced than pubs for me.

(GatoCommodore) #15

yea that asswipe who kept moving to the winning team and leaving his old team, when the other team is winning he jumped ship again

this is one of the reason i went hiatus back in mid 2016

(bgyoshi) #16

No other game has a vote for kicking AFKs, it just kicks them.

2 minutes in pub Objective or Execution is just too long.

Autokick after 1 minute 15 seconds afk in all pub games, no vote

No AFK kick in Ranked, just AFK vote. That way you can kick the intentional AFKer and keep the unintentional AFKer.

But in pubs there’s no excuse and no drawback… you can just join another match. Autoboot.
