Leave the shotgun alone, it is fine! We don’t need another petty firecracker as the shottie in ETQW :slight_smile:

Perhaps it could help if some people realize how to trick the aim of engies with shotties. Extensive strafing and even jumping works fine vs shotties. And even at midrange shotty damage falls off very much, so it is not dangerous at non-close combat ranges.

You can shoot the enemy in the leg or foot (perhaps even arm, hand, shoulder too?) and its a 1 shot kill - I don’t really agree with that.

Leg - sure there is the femoral artery, but the foot? Ain’t nobody got time for that! :smiley:

Most powerful weapon in the game.

Although I do like the option that they are at least usable at short-mid range (i.e. not only for super close combat), this has always been my complaint with shotguns from other games.

But the initial close quarters damage needs a small nerf.

Would like to see the shotgun get slight nerfs or tweaks. I personally feel they’re slightly too strong at the moment.

Hard to balance them though. If you overnerf then they’re completely useless.

If anything I would like just plain old 2-3 body shots to a kill and then some sort of range multiplier in iron sight. Engy is super fast and can dodge better than any other class, so I think in combination it can be pretty reasonable. With less powerful mines on top of that, engy will probably be able to capitalize on large group pushes by outputting quite a lot of damage in a small area. Plus you might see teams using engy as the main cell carrier as well, with mines to delay the chase.

I don’t understand the sudden outcry against shotguns and landmines, really… I don’t feel they’re that different than before SD started doing the rotation of characters, and there wasn’t much of a problem then.

Shotgun should single shot kill all classes except the Soldier when in point blank range. Otherwise, it’s 2x body shots at medium range and then like 4-6x shots at anything beyond that.

I wonder how many people really feel they’re being 1 shotted aren’t realizing they are taking damage from other sources either just before or during a fight with an engineer.

As far as the rate of fire being too high? I definitely disagree. It’s in a good middle zone, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve seen them way faster in other games.

Bottom line is they should do a lot of damage up close, and significantly less damage as the range progresses, which I think they fulfill quite well.

I think the balancing of the shotgun has to do with the map size. Because I played Camden as engineer and that was a lot harder to get kills with the shotty because there are more open spaces.

Aren’t shotgun just a ****ing nightmare to balance fullstop? Can anyone think of any multiplayer fps that’s done them well or benefited from their inclusion? Where they’re not too strong and/or annoying up close and too situational to be used beyond messing around?

Well it was very well balanced lol. ETQW had an overall really good weapon balance for the most part (minus hyper). I definitely am not a big etqw fan boy, but it did a lot of things well.

It must be the dot then because i got like 20+ kills last night. not all shottie of course but was the major contributor.
it felt even easier to use than the other guns. i was getting triples kills etc

Fail, because ETQW shotgun and nailgun were crap and nerfed to non-usability. They were used only for fun and when enemies were too weak, only to humiliate them. What a joke. Fire up ETQW and try again.

The TTK in ETQW is longer so the instant shotgun would be too powerful. In DB kills can be near-instant so the shotgun isn’t imbalanced in this context.

Q3 shotty was a beast close range, while not OP when you couldnt aim or long range, why not Zoidberg?

Ofc the nail/shotgun in ETQW was better balanced because the maps where larger.
Try to play as Proxy on Camden and you will see that the shotgun isn’t OP at least in this map.

I do feel like the shotgun is slightly OP in the smaller maps, because in CQ you have almost no chance.

Whatever (TTK times have not been proven officially so it’s a speculation anyway), but it doesn’t negate the FACT that ETQW shottie was crap. Don’t even start this discussion. It is a fact.
