If a Shotgun doesn’t kill in two blasts, you’re dead.

You’re talking about taking over half a second to kill someone, where as the M4 and other auto matics can kill super fast with good aim.

You’re forgetting that shotguns are about burst dmg. At high level play on the rare occasions shotguns are used, the people using them don’t stand out in the open spamming left click, nor do they do the typical noob wall bouncing proxy gimmick. They usually play off a healing station and pillar in and out of cover. If you factor in human reaction times and how fast you can dart out, shoot, and go back behind cover, the shotgun can do pretty well against an AR as long as the range is close to medium-close.

But that’s the thing, getting into that close range is a lot more difficult than you realize, that and in that high level play you’re rarely going to find one person fights, it’s usually people sticking together. So you have a shotgun, kill one guy, you die, he gets revived, that’s it. It’s such a risky gun to use, and the burst damage may be high, but still if you aim is good you can potentially kill quicker with the Grandeur, M4, or Crotzni.

Again on paper you can kill quicker but you’re leaving yourself exposed the whole time, whereas with a shotgun you can put out your max dps while only exposing yourself to dmg for a very short period of time. Also, yes people play in teams… On both sides. The aura with a shotgun tactic is super effective on certain parts of certain maps not just because there are choke points but also because it’s easy for them to get a pick or two and also have teammates supporting them. It’s not kill one guy and die, it’s kill one guy get low on hp and heal while your teammate with a rifle kills the sawbonez going for a revive/punish or while your fragger prenades the chokepoint because you’re playing close enough to hear and communicate how many people are trying to push.

While I’ll admit it’s not a versatile strat, only works in a select few spots at a high level, it is extremely effective and super easy to pull off. In fact that’s how people should describe shotguns. They’re not high risk high reward, they’re low risk, easy to use, but lack versatility.

the fact that comp meta has finally found some spots where shottie is effective is imo great. the only real issue it seems is how spammy aura hp station can be, not to mention double aura in ranked.

since you cant have multiple loadouts for one merc in the same game, the shotty-aura might need to switch to sth else, forcing another player to e.g. go blish aura. this provides additional challenges to such a team, and imo teams that smartly use different compositions for various stages of the map deserve the reward.

ill take that over cookiecutter sniper/fop/trollpick + fletcher + aura + combo composition any day

-implying picking shotgun is better than blish

yeah nah m8

-didn’t read all of what I wrote

Yeah nah m8, I didn’t say or imply they’re better than blish. I said on specific parts of specific maps with the right set up, they’re extremely effective given how easy they are to use. Overall, they lack versatility which is why you don’t see them outside of pubs much and why most good players will choose the blish.
