Shot Guns or Nah

Shotguns.
No aim.
… You’re doing it wrong. Regardless of how cheap people feel the shotties are, they absolutely shine their best when in the hands of people who can aim well, and if your aim is poor, they’re not going to make money.

I think both the Hollunds and Ahnuld need tweaking in their falloff range (with the longer barrel on the Hollunds, it’s pretty laughable that it does less damage than the Remburg, but I know DB isn’t chasing reality), possibly even the headshot multiplier being boosted from 1.5 to the normal 2.0 to encourage most accurate aim with an appropriate ever so slight adjustment to keep the Remburg where it already is. Just a little less legging people at short range.
Personally, I’d rather they double the pellet count, lower the damage so a solid meatshot with all 18 pellets kills a certain type of merc. Remove falloff since, you will never get all those pellets to hit anything outside of a few feet. And finally, spead out the pellets so they are more of an oval shape rather than a circle, so you can hit multiple people with a single blast.
FWIW, the amount of pellets fired in DB is actually close to how shotguns are used in combat IRL (9-12 pellets of buckshot, because birdshot doesn’t do much besides barely break skin and make you bleed extremely slowly compared to having a buckshot poking through your skull and/or lungs).

Falloff range is pronounced more than necessary with the shotties - and in some cases like the Remburg vs Hollunds, outright wrong (longer barrel = more velocity = more energy; Remburg manages to out distance the Hollunds due to base damage and similar falloff when the Hollunds should reach a bit further). I don’t know about completely deleting falloff, but due to pellet spread, I think it could work.

I’m personally extremely EXTREMELY opposed to oval shaping the pattern! Not only does this make less sense (that’s not how shotguns work, though you can buy a special choke to do it), it’d be extremely bad mechanically. Make shotguns take less aim to hit people? Okay… Very against that myself, but I guess a lot of people need a hand. Make shotguns more limiting and much more likely to kill teammates in a Ranked match? I guess it’s a given that they’re already not in Ranked games due to the meta, but there’s no need to batten down the coffin with rivets.

Seriously though, people already complain enough that shotguns don’t require aim, I’m not a fan of implementing mechanics that make it so that it’s genuinely true.

Shotguns aren’t meant to require aim, they are meant to clear people out in close range.

And not all buckshot fires that many pellets, http://shotshell.drundel.com/pelletcount.htm

We aren’t going for realism here, we’re going for fun but fair mechanics. People will complain about shotguns no matter what, but we need to give them a role in a higher level play, or at least attempt to.

They should retain instant kill capability, if all pellets hit, so if there is 10 pellets and all 10 pellets hit, that should be a kill on say, 100 hp mercs. And they should be able to spread out their damage just enough to hit more than one person.

remburg nearly all pellets hit on body can one shot 120hp (144dmg) but has a very short initial damage falloff

pretty balanced for a melee weapon primary

Only on headshot.

Just a precision.

Yeah then the game would be boring though, it’d become a AR and Semi-Auto Sniper dominated hell, then you’ll complain about people only using those guns.

Tired of people complaining about shotguns. I don’t really use them but they aren’t that “OP”. They are situational guns that really only work on Bridge and Terminal, most of the maps can be held at longer ranges… Miss one shot and you’re dead.

Almost like people don’t like dying to one shot hitscan garbage, eh? Game always had you able to fight back, if you die in one hit you can’t.

I think in case of weapons and their balance the game is pretty well optimized.
Personally i prefer other weapons, but sometimes using shotguns can be really fun…
