Shooting through walls

Looks like I got shot through walls and very often it feels like this even without the death ghost showing it.
Had a whole collection of this last patch, glad this is happening in the new one as often as in the former.

I’d guess the fire line is just an approximation of what happened and thus sometimes can be really off with lag compensation and such.

I’ve had some really goofy ones, check out this one of Winnie killing me up close, and the deathcam showing him holding his gun straight up, and the bullet going straight down haha

By the way dude you can upload pictures with the intern forum function. Just click on the icon “Insert Image”, choose the tab “From Computer” and select the files. Make sure they are jpg due the size restrictions. You can upload 5 pictures per post. :wink:

This occurs because of latency.

At the time of death you were just behind the wall on your screen but still visible on your attackers screen.

We’ll probably eventually update the death ghosts to display the kill using the attackers positional data :slight_smile:

anti i had this when i was stationary behind the post for a good few seconds. approx 5 at least
so not moving to cover. but was shot through the pillar.
and if you check that position your not visible from the opposite balcony.

I mean what else can it be other than latency? This has always been so since the first patches. What is not clear is why Kordin had this since he is also a low pinger in that situation. But probably his or your ping jumped just a moment before that?

To be totally sure, grab someone and stand on same positions and check if that wall is ok :slight_smile:

Yes. To be clear about it, we are displaying the ghosts at the locations both players held from the attacker’s perspective.

So what is going wrong? We don’t sync exact animation and so by extension we don’t sync exact hit location. It’s close but not perfect, thus sometimes you may get a shot that looks like it is going through the wall - the real shot absolutely didn’t. In the future we might sync up more aggressively to stop this, or we might make it more obvious that this isn’t supposed to be completely pixel perfect accurate to keep things lightweight, but for now rest assured that they are not actually shooting you through a wall. :slight_smile:

Not though a wall from the attacker’s perspective, but 9 times out of 10 I see this when I’ve already been ducked behind cover or rounded a corner 1-2 seconds before, so from my perspective I feel cheated and the deathghost backs this up, so there should still something that can be done to improve things.

I’ve never understood why the ghost displays from the attackers perspective - surely it should be yours? Even an average between the two would be an improvement (or show both while we’re testing). I also feel its not the entire story though. Should do some tests - victim run around corner, sniper headshots (for instakill) and takes screenshot at kill time (or frame grabs from fraps) - compare to deathghost.
