Shooting Friendly Mines.

Recently I have been in many positions where a friendly mine could be used to kill an enemy player if only I had the ability to shoot it myself. Most commonly when placed in doorways, hallways and on corners. The enemy player runs over it, hears the beep and either jumps, long jumps or aims for cover. Often resulting in little to no damage being taken. However, if I had been given the ability to blow the mine with my own bullets, the outcome would have been very different.

In the case of Sticky Mines my reasoning is a little different. The “hit box” is much larger than the model itself and can often result in blocking team mates bullets when placed around an entrance such as a door, window or again corner. While I would not use these mines for trying to kill the enemy player, I would like them to detonate so we can continue shooting at the enemy rather then our shots being lost in the deepest darkest nether of my computers brain.

Obviously there is one big downside to doing this…
Trolling…
Other than -xp I really see no way of dealing with this but with mines blowing from friendly shots on servers with friendly fire I think its also important for the level of consistency.

Didn’t know you couldn’t shoot friendly mines. Doesn’t make much sense. I feel like you should be able to shoot them as well as kill your self, and the whole team.

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else agree?

If they are invulnerable from friendly explosive, but not guns than sure.

They could be invulnerable to other friendly blast explosives but should not be to other mines and stuff as they are now… When playing against multiple Proxy’s in game if they each place a mine on the same spot and you shoot one of them, the other will remain. This is really bad communication and a huge frustration when you feel you have cleared an area.

Well, my biggest fear is trolling. When I play proxy (a.k.a. 80% of my dirty bomb time), I rely a lot on mines using them like proximity sensors. I already see frustrated teammates firing them for no reason. On FF off servers, I see no particular reason to let the rest of the team shoot them. Like any other device you can land on the field, it should remain indestructible for the rest of the team. On FF on servers, if you can shoot mines, you also should be able to destroy any other device your teammates can drop on the field. Inadvertance can also happen.

They should mark the mines if it is friendly, something obvious to.

afaik, they do
