Shooter Configs - To Splash Damage

(Xenithos) #1

For those of us that run separate configurations, such as centered personalized HUDS and other such things, we like to keep most of our presets.

For future purposes, it would mean a lot to me and many othersif you have updates to give to shooter configs, you simply add the line to the config file itself, rather than sending a stock one so all of our settings are gone.

If that is impossible to do, may you please post the lines you add, and WHERE you add them EACH update, so that we can go in and manually fix them ourselves. The majority, or at least here’s-to-hoping they can, of us that change our configs do so because we know basic coding, or at least basic things such as moving the config around. If you simply give us the information, we should be able to fix it ourselves. It is our responsibility to know and to save our configs beforehand, but not knowing what you’re changing makes our “fixes” a ton a lot harder, since they’re usually a lot more than what you all were adding originally.

As Bill Gates has said:
http://cooljan.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/65c65d94c48afa09181360bc76975aaa.jpg
We’re lazy. We’ll do it if we have to, to not have to redo our work we’ve already done.

In this comment @bontsa said “Make a backup of your old config and let the game rewrite Engine, Game and UI .ini files. So many whiners run some months old crap as read-only its reaching phenomenal levels of stupidity.”
I couldn’t react to the original statement in that thread since it was closed fairly quickly, however his point though in SD’s absolute favor is a strong one.

So to those out there that use custom configs, I also give you the message that @bontsa did. Make sure you save your config before complaining. If you’re not willing to preserve you don’t have the right to make rage threads. Constructive criticism please.

Also, @bontsa I agree that some configs are just way too old, such as the ones I’ve been using where I can’t even call votes as they get rid of those functions on keys. When it used to be f8, my outdated config was just fine. But then they moved it to the escape menu, and for some reason the escape menu is included in the main config files we have to lock to make sure our centered huds don’t become broken. Crap even the font and player name sizes have changed, which I’ll be putting up a video about soon compared to my last config.

TL:DR -

  • The newest patch updated my shooter config, I’m glad. Though other changes very much annoy me.
  • I understand the basics of save and save often…
  • @bontsa is awesome. So is SD.
  • Informing us of all the changes they make would be very useful.
  • Allowing their users to be responsible is sometimes dumb, but it would be highly appreciated by those that are.

Thank You,
~Vanilla.

I mean… It’s pretty fantastic seeing my IGN being spelled right for phenomenal, record breaking 4 times in a row, but maybe one mention could’ve suffi…ced? ^^’

About that comment too yeah, I was getting pretty sick and tired of reading all the pointless, unconstructed idiocy being flinged around like feces in a monkey cage. Although, I admit being wrong in the way I brought it up, also at the fact even some people without read-only configs are confirmedly having hitching / teleporting / freezing issues. Btw benchmarking the game while these hitches happen might give some data about them too, so anyone experiencing them could try out running Fraps or such to see when they happen, might be handy slapping graph like that in the reports about performance issues.

I never ment my comment (or any of them for that matter) as some religious hail towards SD, I just wanted to point out the update overall seems pretty damn great for the most part and some issues that seemed major by some vocal members of the community, were pretty easily fixed if they had just investigated it slightly further before going on a posting rampage. However it’s still a fact that issues outside of that can rise, as they have now. That’s definitely SD’s next job to deal with and asap, they aren’t gods amongst developers who make no mistakes, but they’re pretty damn good team of people that deserve respect where respect is due, but also criticism where such needs to be given.

In case I ever said it, I don’t see them as God’s either, nor was I trying to imply it. I was just as tired as you were, but when I read the patch notes on the website, the first thing I did was get rid of read-only configs. I needed an update. However, when the update came I was among those using standard configs and getting hitches.

I happen to be recording when I’m playing as well, so I’m going to have a video showing some of these hitchings… They’re very common and annoying right now… the first few matches I had problems aiming, didn’t realize I was adjusting to it…

My bad, that wasn’t my intention either. There just seemed to be way too much waving towards me too there that I had to speak out, I wouldn’t had honestly even posted otherwise seeing I have nothing to add to discussion. Peace out!

Now I know why Windows is full of shit…

A lazy person will do an easy way of doing things without considering repercussion on the effect of the work he does. FFS, get your effing act together.

A person that thinks more and acts less, has better long term work output than a person who works more and thinks less. That’s why we go to university for higher learning… and the learning doesn’t stop even after getting awarded with the degree.

“A lazy person will do an easy way of doing things without considering repercussion”
“A person that thinks more and acts less,”

Both are lazy. There’s a huge difference between being lazy and ignorant, and simply wanting to find a faster easier way that Might actually have good benefits. My suggestion was of the latter. We are lazy, because we don’t want to fix something we’ve already spent time on AGAIN.

As it is well put, laziness WITH creativity. My comment was not supposed to turn into some laziness and this is why Windows sucks thing.

There once was a story about a person a factory that was making toothpaste. the factory was losing money because sometimes the machine wouldn’t put toothpaste into the container and into the box correctly. So after the company invested a lot of time and money they put a weight-scale with a siren on it for every time a box was underweight as it passed the point. It would stop production until someone came over and fixed it.

A person after two days had had enough. He turned on a fan, and every time a box was underweight, the fan would knock it off the assembly into a box, so the sirens would never happen. The company executives were shocked by the simple fix that a peon did simply because he didn’t want to be bothered.

And Windows 7 is just fine, thank you.

When I quote someone that already has a huge quote, I know that the other quotes will be hidden, so I don’t bother…
