Shoot Through Walls, possible?

As usual, searched on forum but couldn’t find a similar question.

Is it possible to make walls non-bullet-proof? I want wooden surfaces to let bullets pass through but still give the wood sound with a bullet hole texture applied.

Yes. You can make a solid looking shader which lets bullets through. Look at the various common/*clip shaders, and then make one that does that but has an image stage.

Bulletmarks are their own surfaceparam as well. I don’t know if a surface which does not stop bullets will show marks or not. Easy to find out though.

AFAIK you probably cannot cause it make the wood hit sound.

I suggest reading the shader manual.

Bizarre idea:

This is completely untested and off the top of my head, so try it if you like the sound of it, but don’t blame me if it doesn’t work:

Make the wood you want to be “thin” into a door object. Set the shoot through keys so it acts correctly. Now give it a target name that will never be used. AFAIK when a door has a target name you don’t get the open icon when you are near it. So essentially it should act just like a wood brush, but you can shoot through it (and I think you get decals too) and you should get sound as well.

thanks, to both of you
I haven’t tried either of them yet, I’ll let you know if it works.

Wouldn’t that also allow grenades, panzers, mortars, dynamite, etc to pass through the wall?

RTFM

damocles:
If I remember right, the shoot through keys didn’t work in RTCW MP, only SP (I’m not positive, it’s been a long time since I played with that stuff). No idea what they do in ET.

STFU I only asked.

You could be right, I’ve never actually used the feature, so I don’t know. It was just an idea.
