I suppose the team thought about this already, so was there any gameplay problem in making Turtle’s shield opaque/nearly opaque either from one (the enemy’s) side, or from the enemy’s view only?
Obscuring the view would have made it a nice addition.
Shield's opacity
It was addressed in the dev video when they discussed the old solid shield design, if it was opaque you can’t see if there’s anyone behind it and that’s, uh, bad. IIRC they didn’t really go indepth with that.
But with the new design, if the shield is opaque from one side then it’s also pretty bad because you can’t tell if there is anyone’s behind the shield shooting you, and by the time you do, you are already dead. That’s too powerful.
It’s not what I heard, they only told about the old shield being a real wall, you couldn’t shoot through.
And that’s exactly my point, it would add a strategy to the shield: you’d plant one, you wouldn’t need to be behind it, it would scare the enemy by just being there.
There is no such thing as “too powerful” in this game, you can always balance it from other angles.
Considering that friendlies can shoot through the shield, it would be bullshit if enemies couldn’t see through it.
Now that you’ve tried Turtle, and probably guessed that he was just another waste of a merc slot, you still don’t want the shield opaque from the other side?

have you been scared by the shield on the enemy side? No. You can just shoot it down from the front. Litterally useless. Wasn’t it promized to be destructable only from the back, and using nades/throwables?
-
I don’t even find it transparent enough from the back. Many times I’ve moved outside to see clearer. So I’d want it more transparent from the back, more opaque from the front.

Turtle isn’t even good at using his own shield due to lack of ammo.
I loved playing him for some matches, but I already know he’s a waste of a merc slot.
He would not be useless as an extra. But we’ll see if YOU are gonna put him in a slot later. I did and I only regretted I hadn’t brought an air support guy instead.
It’s not about me learning, I find it even more useless on the enemy side.
And he’s fun to play with, but that’s only temporary.
Maybe it’s also me because I always have Proxy (but who doesn’t?) in my picks, and thus Turtle is redundant. To me he should have been a fighting merc, not a repair guy. Much less fun to lay down a shield that you can’t even use yourself because you have zero ammo. Protecting yourself while doing objs? Sounded nice, but I haven’t been able to do that yet. I think it makes it even worse, because having a shield around an obj tells the enemy you’re there, so you lose the ninja aspect you have with Proxy.
So the opacity stuff would be a little thing to make it more attractive, but really, I would have made him an attack merc instead of a repair guy. He doesn’t need heavier guns, but he needs to be given ammo packs instead of a welding gun. He only provides part of a solution, and DB being a pub game (because -yeah-, perhaps he’s good for clans vs clans, I don’t know/give a shit), everyone will be wasting his ammo behind shields and there will be none given.
