Shaders piss me off

(XaNaX) #1

sorry ive been askin so much lately but im tryna learn all other stuff before i go ahead and start making the map

for shaders- i havent got one to load right yet. i keep getting “shader not found” brushes. is it because my space is too filled up? i have tons and tons of textures because there comming from all the pk3s in my etmain. also ive been loading prefabs from a pen drive. is this bad for modeld prefabs and shaders/textures or should they all be placed in their folders in etmain. i deleted and reinstalled everything. im gona have a seperate install just for gtk and one for playing

i tried to follow the 2bit skybox tutorial here http://www.pythononline.co.uk/et/tutorial25.htm i placed the script in etmain/scripts and the prefab in etmain/maps/test or whatever dir. it told me to i edited the text to put “test” my map name and still got the shader not found brush. on the tut is says move the box outside without resizing it. how can it be a sky box if it doesnt surround the map. it says he places it in the left corner i tried a couple tuts what am i doing wrong. i know its just something stupid im overlooking

sorry post so long hope anyone even reads it lol:rolleyes:

you need to add the NAME.shader from your pk3’s (Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\scripts) to the shaderlist.txt in order for GTK to find the shader file

i do this im getting better at it tho… is that all there is to it tho? but the shader file in scripts and where do the rest of the files go? and is there supposed to be a folder in et main named textures? or to add single textures would i jut but the file in etmain for gtk to be able to load it

Go to the pak0.pk3 file in your ET folder, and extract these following folders into your etmain folder:

textures
scripts
maps
sounds
models
maps
levelshots

When you then write/copy files and scripts, you need to put them in their appropriate folders.

So say you have a map.pk3 and you open it; it will have all these folders in it. You open each folder in the map.pk3 and copy them into your folders in etmain.

When you pack your own map.pk3 you must take all the files that your maps uses in your local etmain (unless if they are vanilla files) and put them into appropriate folders.

any sites that have premade shaders and textures for download?

For shaders just read this explanation:
http://robotrenegade.com/q3map2/docs/shader_manual/contents.html

Use CTRL+F to find what you want easily  I use it since I started mapping and now I’m able to make basic shaders.
