shader question

is it possible somehow to blend in the skybox bottom as water in a map.
I tried to use the texture as water but it becomes otherwise then the water in the skybox
… Does anyone know if this is possible?

I tried once to make a map with some kind of infinite water for Q3Rally, never was happy with the result. I guess the map Battery is still doing it best.

I’ve seen it done before, don’t have the link anymore though.

  1. Make sure the skybox image goes all the way down
  2. Extend a water texture brush out from the map, experiment with how far
  3. Put alpha blending on the water so the outer edge is transparent. I think you want a rather sharp falloff - again, experiment with it.

dont quite get you here, should the whole brush be alpha or just a part of it?

actually I think I will give it a shot with your water shader if its ok, maybe borrow your pound texture too.
Is this ok with you Ailmanki?

Sure you can use, but I don’t know anymore where I got it from, but I remember having adjusted each texture. So its probably so called derivative work.

DerSaidins idea with a transparent textures is better, cause in my map, where skybox and map meet, there is a visible seam.
Only the border of your water would be transparent, that would make it possible to look it like seamless going into skybox… with some experimenting this should work.

I read Q3Rally… Offtopic a bit, but I think it’s a “good” idea to post this:

For blending you may use SimonOC tut:

thank you all of yo guys… It doesnt seem to get the way I want anyhow, so i think my solution is make map a bit bigger and find a skybox with only sky in it then I can let water become horizon in a normal way

Look for threads that mention saberpeak.
