i got hyped because of the song, but the clips were not up to par.

its mostly getting 1/2 kills, while in my eyes you need at least 3/4 kills minimum per clip. and some of the clips look like you just cut out the 10 seconds that came between 2 kills, its best to fastforward the cut out part, or not use the clip at all.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, I’ll try to improve both my editing and gameplay

Fair warning, I’m a cynical bastard that tries to find flaws in everything. The following will probably be hyper-critical, but hopefully you’ll at least learn something. Please don’t take anything personally, nothing is meant to insult. <3
Also expect me to link a lot of videos to illustrate points. I’m not embedding them to keep the wall o’ text minimal. EDIT: RIP minimal.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the music, but music is a VERY subjective thing. It gave me a very Symphony of Fails vibe, in a word, clowny. The thing about that series is that it is all about people messing up in DotA. Most of the clips you used weren’t of that clowny “done messed up” nature, they were somewhere along the spectrum of mundane to semi-serious (a few of them were silly, like the concussed Phantom trying to katana). It’s a weird disconnect I noticed. Most montages go for a music fits gameplay thing, some go for a music fits the character thing. [url=https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZFNszsr0pQFJdtndTyaNsQ]Dazz3601 is GREAT about doing this, look no further than [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5M7qqpl-1kM]Doctor’s Orders for no less than 4 examples of this in action. (Shoutouts for using The Witcher 3 battle music. That game is great on so many levels.)
If you feel like getting really fancy, try to sync music with action. I’m really bad at noticing this, so if you did, get a cookie.

The actual quality of the clips were kind of subpar. Montages are generally about showing off great (or hilariously bad) plays. In this regard, if you don’t get a Triple Kill at least, I generally don’t care. (If you are playing something twitchy like Sparks, you can get away with not murdering everything, much like @Zorla 's great RETRIBUTION, which has a focus on headshots and slows to show her tracking.) Another thing to note is I don’t like watching turret murdersprees, despite how effective they are in game. It’s a very personal thing, but I don’t find turrets montage worthy. ([url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3OWZ-v8Q84]This gets an exception.)

Take a significant amount of credit in having long form clips. @Beryl does a great job of this in stuff like this. (Additional shoutouts for great music, clip quality and personal envy for that CW M91 Fragger.)

Sound effects added in post can be really good or really bad. Dazz loves going for merc quotes, which I find great. You did a solid job with those, not over-utilized, but still noticeable. Cutting the music for them can be a good thing, like with that “It was at this moment” quote. So good job.

Thanks for reading this wall of text. Go get a cookie, and happy fragging.

I’m a known poster of some of the largest walls of text, in some of the most organized manners. (See this thread for some of my latest work.) I’ll probably reduce how many I make when school starts up again, but I might make some time. (The cookies thing is also a signature I include at the end of a lot of my walls.)

I go into so much detail because it’s good practice analyzing exactly what could use improvement and explaining my thoughts on how to execute. I’m a Civil Engineering student, so doing that is kind of my jam. I also like being GoodGuyBadmin, so I’ll take most chances I get to give advice and criticism.

I also play Fletcher, not Proxy, but the sentiment is appreciated.

Somehow finished watching the video by ending up squatting with a bottle of vodka in my hand…

42/10 pure distillation of clown. Would watch again. Bonus points for the teabag revive on Fletcher.

Since I must always comment on some area for improvement, I found the sped up combat sections a little fast.

Well done. Color me impressed.

So should I only speed up moving/not getting kills ? Or just slow down combat and leave movement/no action at the current fast-forward speed ?

Do you happen to know any good fonts/graphic programs for text/thumbnails ? I’m thinking about Photoshop but maybe there’s something that’s less of a pain in the ass.

P.S. I always teabag teammates when helping them up, bonus points for “in your face” teabag

(MisterBadmin) #11

@Someordinaryguy
I’d only speed up movement and sections where there isn’t action, and keep combat at normal pace. Sped up combat can look really silly, at least to me.

I really can’t help you with graphic design stuff, sorry.

Teabag reviving is a time honored medical tradition. If I’m charging defibs on your corpse, you’re getting a cup of tea when you stand up.

i rate it 7/10 its nice, but the quotes are a bit meh.

(SweetGenocide) #13

The music fitted perfectly, i dunno why.

(Someordinaryguy) #14

Russian disco while playing Thunda who’s “Russian” ?

(Orivar) #15

Sorry to say but spawn camping in this game is SUCK. And placing proxy mines where the enemy come from so they will get killed and leave the match isn’t fun too.

(Someordinaryguy) #16

So it’s the first time I did something like this, enjoy.

Constructive criticism and advice are more than welcome
