My clan dont play E.T (why i bought a server to try to recruit some E.T players to make a squad :wink: ) they play rtcw and bf1942/mohaa/CoD and ya know a 1mb gets you around 100-150 on most us server so it aint all bad :wink:

100-150 is pretty much what I get playing on US servers too, if I’m lucky. Thankfully I still manage to own, with the possible exception of extreme close quarters where no amount of anti-lag code will help me.
Shame I get that ‘low’ ping on so few servers, I’m getting really annoyed at crap server admins - got kicked the other day for telling an admin he was an idiot after he filed when I tk’ed / revived, then got threatened with being kicked on another server because I mentioned that stacking one side with the best players then shuffling 2 minutes into the map after owning but not restarting the map was lame (eg in fueldump, 2 minutes in and had secured forward spawn - then shuffling gives defence twice as long to hold at this point :confused: ). Still, had more fun when admins started cheating to try to beat me and still didn’t manage it (they had super fast run and multiple grenades on - why people like shrub I’ll never know).

Sorry about the rambling, just killing time while file uploads. After all that, I could have upped the bleeding lightmap res even more - only filled 3 megs total so bunged the source into the pk3 after all… Oh well :smiley:

[EDIT] Map uploaded and now ‘finished’. If I had more time I’d have spent it on the lighting - there were various niceties I wanted to set up but didn’t have time. But still, all in all was fun, and at least having a deadline meant it gets finished! Now to wait for the bugs to roll in - not that I’ll care, I’ll be happy in my sleep, if logs can be happy…

Btw. I’d be able to set up a small webpage, showcasing all the maps (screenshots and stuff) with some explanations by the author if desired.

the Seven_dc’s Forum Damage 1024^3 mapping competition 2004.

Basic Information

This pk3 is a results of the:
Seven_dc’s Forum Damage 1024^3 mapping competition 2004
Held between 24.2.2004 - 28.3.2004

This is the first pk3 without any disqalification and
clean up. If this pk3 is good enough for the community
there will be no second pk3 file.

The Detoeni’s Bazaar map is modified to match the
competition rules. The command map and two textures
were converted into .jpg files to make the pk3 fit
in 4 MB size limit. Orginal map were 4,7 MB

The orginal deadline was at 24.3.2004, but it was postponed
to improve the quality of the work and some mapper needed
more time finish their maps. The new deadline was set
in 28.3.2004 but Go-gerbil and joops sloop dissapeared
at the face of the earth at critical time. They have been
given merciful time till the morning of the 29.3.2004 7:00 EET

Joops sloops entry was late bacause my mail problems and
Go-Gerbil was so off what time it was so we gave him little
more time.

Copetition rules

  • Playable on W:ET
  • Max. 1024?? in gtkradiant
  • Filesize max 4mb (pk3 size)
  • The map must include source (.map) file
  • The map must follow naming issued in this forum
    example. The textures must be in textures/mapname
  • Map must have somekind of objective.
  • The map must support LMS gamemode
  • The map must have at least 8 spawns for each team
  • The map must be overall acceptable quality, no missing textures, models. No scripting errors.
  • The winner is decided as a vote on forum damages forum: Level Design for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory.
  • The competition is held only if 3 (three) or more maps is contributed.
  • The contributed maps that are agreed into competetion are gathered together into one pk3 and distributed free of charge.
  • The source (.map) files are distributed in separate package.
  • The main combo coordinator (Seven_dc) check the maps so that they are valid for the competition. You can appeal here (damage forum) if you think you are miss threaded and Go-Gerbil will kick my ass
  • The deadline of the competition is (28.2.2004 20:00 EET)
  • The coordinator helds right to change any of these rules as he sees fit.

Installation

Place the 1024comp04.pk3 to your etmain folder,
select it from the multiplayer->create server
menu.

OK, now we have 7 maps - looking ‘ahead’, would we want to run a mini-tourney on em?
Ideas could be:

A) - 8 teams (7 rounds)
B) - 4 teams (6 rounds)

In scenario A each team plays each other team once, and each map is played only once. This is in a ladder format. The top two teams could go into a playoff on whichever map is deemed to produce the most fun competitive play.
In scenario B each team plays each other team twice, and each map is played only once. This is in a ladder format. Note it’s six rounds, so one map won’t be played in the ladder format. This remaining map could be used for the top two teams in the final playoff.

Teams of 3 sounds about right.

What say people? I’m up for creating a team - although finding mutual play times might be interesting given our geographical diversity :slight_smile:

Looked at the maps briefly, and a couple of issues:

thecave - near clip plane is set a tad too near - you can see the skybox cutting through the scenery if you go to one extreme of the map and look at the other
ascent - no objective info

Overall they look great with a variety of styles - I’ll be on the servers sorting them out as soon as I get back from lunch!
