Servers! Talk to me about them.

Hello everyone!
There were some changes with our servers to try and improve stability last week. I wanted to hop on in here and see if anyone had any issues this weekend. We’ve had various reports of warping/lag and random high ping issues ect. in the past and I want to see whats going on now. (This does not include NGS kicks =P)

Also, I’d like to know if you think that the servers have improved!

Thanks in advance for the feedback! As always I greatly appreciate you guys taking time to help out <3

Eu player here.
Been having a few problems with rubberbanding, lag and delays when throwing items (medpacks, ammo packs and stickies).
In those servers I had a normal ping 30-50, it did have a few players that were around 150.

Today it seemed good, but I played only for a few minutes

EU here as well.

I believe I had a full disconnect yesterday or the day before yesterday but other than that I didn’t notice anything huge.

Thanks for your work, it’s very appreciated!

If at all possible could you guys let me know what the server name is that has issues? It’ll help us focus down our investigation <3

Had 2 matchmaking games this eve that kicked couple of (from 1-3) our and enemy team’s fellas out of the lobby right after they got in. Cannot remember the server name though. EU, around 20 UTC-ish.

Some warping here and there but nothing unusual. Will take a screenshot of the server if I see bad performance and post here.

Recently there are more often servers in which ALL players are experiencing the same latency issues, regardless of ping - missing hit notifications, rubber banding, teleporting, etc. Server performance also gets worse the longer players stay in game.

My server browser is sorted by ping so I mostly join US East servers for stopwatch and objective.

@pumpkinmeerkat This is exactly what kind of information I am looking for. I’ve played on servers myself where suddenly ping jumps super high ect.

I just played in a US (can’t remember East or West) server where I was getting a some constant input lag, which was kind of reminiscent of packet loss. I couldn’t get anyone else in the server to say anything about it. Ping was below 100 most of the time.

For as long as I’ve played DB, I’ve been getting the occasional bout of extreme rubber-banding, which I attribute to packet loss. (ping stays the same) But that happens only for ~10 seconds. This time, I had one of those seizures and noticed some hindering input lag.

@NxA_Noxie I’ve had that happen as well. In the past it would usually result in a lost connection but more recently it seems like all players in the server begin to lag but don’t drop.

There has been a greater discrepancy between ping in the server browser and ping in game as well. A few times this weekend I joined servers showing single digit ping in the browser but in game my ping would be consistently 180+. Could just be my connection in those scenarios but it isn’t an issue I’ve had (or at least noticed) until recently. Hope this helps!

Playing on US east servers, I do notice a small spike to 100ms-150ms or 900ms and it fades away.

Asia Server here . Every Asia server has a shift in ping… At some time the ping lies between 55 to 80 but other times it fluctuates to 266ms like that … but my internet is providing the same speed every time … i don’t know why there is such a fluctuation and there are also freezes in the game for about 4 to 5 sec … Hope you guys will rectify it because you guys are doing a good job here. Thank you

Agree to this, some has 30 ping, some has 200, crazy.

(BananaSlug) #14

u am not sure if that the change fault but people are having higher ping (90-130)
and my internet suck soo if my brother decided to watch yt i had 120 ping but now
its between 250 and 980 O.o

btw i live in poland (east from Deutschland)

(bontsa) #15

This happened. At least me and 3 fellas from opposing team dropped out at the exact same time. Not sure if the server was up right after, we simply picked another server. Time was around 15 UTC.

(NxA_Noxie) #16

Do you know about what time this happened?

None of these reports are very useful without any kind of traceroutes or useful data to help diagnose the issue. I also know for a fact that in every game players tend to assume things without actually knowing. If they have an issue or a few people have an issue with connectivity, they will assume it’s “the host/server” without even considering it’s a peer in-between the route.

They come up with dumb things like “that patch when they changed the design of the weapons caused my ping to spike” that make no sense at all. So the PSA is to learn before typing!! Don’t just assume that everything is the fault of SD/NEX and that unrelated things are changing your ping.

For me personally, as well as about 30 different people I regularly play with, we haven’t really seen any issues as far as lag. The usual bugs of the game (incl. the NGS kicks) are taking place. Other than that, the servers haven’t been disconnecting all the connected players in a couple weeks now like they were doing about a month ago.

(NxA_Noxie) #18

@sneak actually this information is useful. Especially if I receive the server name and even more helpful - time of occurrence. I have personally been in game randomly experiencing the issues listed above when I do not normally experience any of them. I also asked the players to tell me what they think and what they’ve been experiencing. Granted some problems are caused by outside issues but the whole reason for this thread was to get an idea of how everything went this past weekend.

Thank you for your feedback but I do appreciate all players leaving their opinion and experiences with the servers.

It can be helpful in finding out if a problem is resolved, but what about people who are reporting lag? Without any diagnostic information it cannot be helpful. This is a basic piece of knowledge from networking in general and applies to everything… doesn’t matter what’s going on with DB. So do you mean it’s helpful for figuring out if whatever was changed is now working well?

In the case that there was an issue on the actual server(s) then it could be something people cannot diagnose, but this wasn’t stated so I have to go off basic knowledge instead. :stuck_out_tongue:

I also experienced 1 disconnect and while having normal ping, rubberbanding was real. I could see that especially when interacting with objectives. The progress bar was moving very glitchy.
