Server Time out (your online status has changed)

(crazyfoolish) #1

Most of the time when i try to connect to a server in Brink i get a server time out error. Immediately after that the ping of that server changes to 999. If i then go back and re-search for servers i cannot find ANY. Even resetting Brink doesn’t always work. All of these servers i have played on before and all of them have relatively low ping. (around 50 ms).

does anyone else get this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks

If this happens for all internet access/multiple games, first thing to rule out would be things like new firewall/internet security settings or any changes to your router. You could also try going through the process of completely disconnecting and rebooting your modem and router (with both the permission of the hardware owner and using the steps provided in the manuals by the manufacturers).

On the other hand I had something similar happen myself with another game. It wasn’t to do with my connection at all (SpeedTest.net confirmed this) even though seemingly the most obvious symptom was really high latency in lobbies and terrible lag in-game (600-1500). The reason for me was that my PC was pretty old and something somewhere had given up. I rebuilt my PC (it was about time) and the new hardware didn’t produce the same issue on the same internet connection and router setup.

Obviously a full rebuild upgrade isn’t always possible, in which case you’ll need to swap in/out all the parts in your PC until you find the issue. If your PC is still under warranty I’d send it in for repairs first before opening the case, as this usually invalidates your warranty. If you’re not certain about PC maintenance, seek advice from your supplier before attempting anything.

I’m not sure if this is possible but, it would seem that it is something to do with steam as it happens with all official steam games but no games that i play outside of steam. Also there is no lag in-game. It is connecting to games that i have problems with.

Yep, I get this from time to time across several different Steam games. I will restart Steam and the problem normally corrects itself.

Yeah this works, it’s just a bit of a pain. Oh well

disable the windows QOS service

If it happens only during connection attempts and with all Steam-based games it’s not something I’ve seen before and not something I’m able to investigate. Hopefully someone else on the forums can help.

I don’t seem to be getting the error anymore. It stopped happening just after a steam update. Could just be cooincedence.

This is related to steam works, when steam friends goes offline all brink players will drop for some reason, and says that thing about your online status have changed. Happens everytime steam friends goes offline to mainatance or whatever.
