Server shutdown when map is called

I’m tired and confused.

I can play my map at locahost but when i put it on the server and call for it machine shutdown.
I couldn’t find any good error at console.log but when i call for map at the ASE console it give me this reply too: “…ERROR: MAX_PATCH_PLANES…”
how the hell server can get error for that? or maybe it is just some ase bug :stuck_out_tongue:

anyway, i didnt get it when were playing on local
but its true that this map have many curves and patch meshes and i had this problem before (but fixed it).

well, this map sure is big, have 241 custom shaders, 10678 brushes and 620 entities, many sounds (and sound speakers ~94?) but i should have enough mb for hunks anyway (com_hunkused = 50606592 on localhost).

i tried to play it on pure and unpure etmain and etpro :frowning: nothing helped

lol what i can tell more about it? it have timelimit changed to 9999 xD

ERROR: MAX_PATCH_PLANES
The visible brush face is being split too many times. Extra vertex points are created by q3map on visible face edges, where they are split by other visible face points (corners, or vertices). So if you have too many visible face points touching the edges of another face, that particular face will be split many times and have many vertex points.

You could have a brush with too many faces. I would look for any brushes in the map that had alot of faces and make then detail brushes and/or cut them up.

If there was a patch/curve that you merged before the error I would split it or turn it into an ase model.

Making a misc_gamemodel multiple section mesh, from bsp brushes

  1. Make a small boxmap with the walls textured with ‘caulk’.
  2. Add a info_player_deathmatch entity.
  3. Use the ‘caulk’ texture on any faces you don’t want in your model. (be advised that if you have a textured bsp face ontop of a cailked face that face will be removed.)
  4. Compile your map.
  5. Make a .bat file.
    (a .bat file is a .txt file rename to .bat)
    (change the directories to fit your setup)

  1. run the .bat file. (a new .ase file will be created with the name of your .bsp)

when you have the ASE model simply load it into the map as you would with any other model.

I was getting this error a few weeks ago on one of my maps, also you still with East Front? you seem to have disapeered for a few months :shock: we thought you were gone and were about to start work on the map we thought you were doing so you still with us?

well i know this bug is and what should i do but…
why it dont shows on localhost?..

anyway, i am not sure if this really the problem :frowning:
that is just rly bizzare - never had similar problem and never heard that someone have too : o

btw…
i didnt have time for mapping before :frowning: now i wanna finish this one and back to mapping for EF (i have few nice ideas and just cant wait to map’em all :evil: )

well I didnt get the same error I got max edge lines or something

maybe there’s a problem with the host, try setting automap to the map you have

well, it was max_patch_planes
i am suprised but after all happy coz i can fix it…

but let somebody wise tell me why i didnt get this error on localhost…

eh… whatever…

i just feel sorry for those poor bastards that dont have their own servers to check for some extra errors :expressionless:

Say, does the server use exactly the same W:ET version you have locally?

good question alot of mappers test on 2.5 and then forget what version it is, maybe 2.5 allowed it to play. so yea what version are both servers?

well i tested it mainly on et 2.6 and on 2.6b too
and my server is 2.6b

btw is there some tool to find out witch patch mesh do the error :stuck_out_tongue:
(compiling and uploading 15 mb map file again and again can be boring)

and it is! :bored:

anyway, i am just glad thati can fix it

well what I did was split my map in 3 different files, I compiled each one, the one that compiled the stage FixTJunctions the SLOWEST was the problematic one, so I fixed that the most
