Server level cap idea (more max and min level)

(trendyArtist) #1

So throughout the past week of playing dirty bomb(at level 29), I’ve flipped through the normal servers of objective and to min level 10 and 20.
I’ve noticed that I find more higher level players playing on the normal servers rather than min level 10.

My idea was to including more servers that contain a maximum level, for instance max level 15. I thought this would be a good idea because players who actually played max level 5 and reach level 6, or even new players in general, have to go play the normal servers where all the higher players with more experience and or skill play.
I feel this would be better because for low levels as it would decrease the level ranges, resulting in more balanced games and better player experiences.

I feel decreasing the number of normal servers and implying more level caps would be best, like having max level 5, min level 10, max level 15, min level 20 and max level 30. But maybe still include normal servers for players not prepared to stick to these servers.

This would be great as players could also join the servers with higher level ranges to intentionally put themselves to the test.

I’ve already discussed this to two friends in discord, a level 8 and a level 12, and they agree with the idea.
I’m wondering what you guys think, if this is one of the great ideas that’s going to improve dirty bomb.

Been suggested before and it’s a good idea but there’s one problem with that: if you make maximum level servers it becomes MORE difficult for veterans and high level players to find matches than it already is. I like the idea and how it would balance more, but I don’t think it could be implemented as such without causing more problems than it would solve.

Id like to pay to reduce my level please implement SD

You can always play ranked. Oh, wait…

I don’t know how other people pick the servers they play on, but most of the time I don’t care whether or not a server is a min/max server as long as there are enough slots filled and it’s either in the lobby or just started. A small number of max level servers would be fine as a safe harbour for people getting fed up with being stomped by veterans not wanting to play on a min server “for reasons”.

More “Max Level X” servers -> Fewer ragequitters -> Bigger active-playerbase -> More matches to join.

An oversimplified theory, I suppose, but all the same, I don’t think it’d hurt to have, say, at least a few max level 15, 30 etc. servers. I’m 76 and I wouldn’t mind <30’s staying in those while I play in the uncapped ones, even if there are somewhat fewer players there.

I think it might help maintain the community’s size at least a bit better, as I have heard many occasions of players leaving because they were getting rekt by long time players.

mind you rage quitter will always exsist since they only quit when their team are losing even tho the match is balanced.

Oh, certainly, but I don’t propose a definite fix; just perhaps something to cool some players down a bit. Sure, most ragequitters are assholes by nature (no offense to the ones who aren’t <333), but even an asshole increases the size of the playerbase. Maybe this would at least cater to their desires a bit better and stop DB’s population from declining so rapidly…

Do you know how many level 1s I already see in the standard servers, that somehow got there instead of playing in a max 5? It’s really tear jerking to say the least…

Oh, yeah, another thing: Level 1’s named “FelipeEduardoJAJAJAJAJAXD” with 400 ping tend to mess things up a bit, too…I wish there could be a ping cap, but that’d never work…it wouldn’t be fair to the people who can’t play under a certain ping  Still, I wouldn’t mind if they stayed in the max level 5 servers…:stuck_out_tongue:

level bracketing will congest casual players. It might however give incentive to players to level up, but then, it will also give them incentive to rage quit more often if they can’t get their 500XP win.

Applying max level20 to most less casuals and forcing the more experienced players to play up against their equivalent in skill can be touchy balance, but community input can be very helpful.

Another issue with this is that people often want to play with their friends, if people are locked to server brackets, it becomes harder to play with each other.

We have batted ideas around different ways to do this internally, and decided the way we have it set up is best for now - but it will probably change when Casual Matchmaking is implemented, naturally.

At least they should have it so people that use quick join as a low level ONLY get put into max level 5/6 (I forget if they changed it or not). There’s no need for people new to the game to get absolutely slaughtered in non-level restricted servers. At least if they used the server browser they’d be actively choosing to go against potentially higher levels.

(DirtyDav) #15

Maybe somewhat controversial idea here, but what if that were taken to a higher extreme and there was a restriction on regular matches (not level restricted) until, say, level 3 was reached? The big downside to this would be that it’d might give some newcomers a bad first impression (“WOW P2W GAME HAVE TO SPEND TIME AND MONEY TO PLAY REGULAR MATCH FFS”). However, it doesn’t take long to get to that level. Someone even completely new to shooters would inevitably get there at most within their first 4 hours (haven’t been level 3 in a long time so accuracy may vary).

The upsides to this are obvious. For instance, we higher level players won’t have to keep spamming V22 and pray that the level 1 skyhammer will eventually figure out where the “e” button is on his keyboard. Or that he can even give out ammo.

…Or that he can sprint.

Other advantages:
-They’ll get a feel for the game
-They’ll actually know that there are max level 6 servers they can join (I don’t think many newcomers are even aware of this)
-Less prone to ragequitting and immediately uninstalling
