Server CPU spiking? - Concerning server lag

Hello!

This is a topic that has been brought up quite a few times but most tend to focus on the client being the issue in regards to lag. After having played this game on max settings, low settings and the lowest possible settings using the always popular FPS configs I still get the same lag at the same times regardless of what I am running. I am not the only one. Most that I talk to who pay attention also gets frame drops at times. Typically it’s during explosions/air strikes but not always.

I was wanting to know if Splash Damage ever looked closely at CPU spiking on the server side which would cause the clients to lag. I ask this because it’s been a problem in past games. For example, when CS:S was released the objects on the map that had physics enabled could stress out the servers CPU when those objects were being manipulated which in turn caused lag spikes for people on the server. And if the hardware happened to be hosting multiple servers then everyone would get lag spikes even if nothing happened on your game server. Other games have had similar problems and I was wondering if Dirty Bomb wasn’t potentially suffering from the same issue.

I understand that your game servers are most likely virtualized which makes this a bit more interesting to track down. And I know this is backseat troubleshooting that you guys have most likely already looked in to and I apologize for that but I simply wanted to be sure a mistake/oversight in past games wasn’t being made with DB.

Thanks!

Finally was able to test the new patch and holy crap… I’ve never lagged this hard before. I’m consistently getting frame dips, but now my mouse will randomly lag out for a few seconds and then register all my movements a few seconds later. I’ve got quite a few moments of this happening recorded if needed.
