Server Client Issue

I don’t know if its just me but I am getting frequently annoyed of the server list brining up servers within 30-40 ping which I can never, ever, ever connect too.

If they are not going to respond to me trying to join a game when there are empty slots available, why bother showing them? There must be some sort of handshake going on to actually verify the servers details to bring it into the list in the first place so why is it that nearly 5 out of every 10 servers I try to connect too, does nothing?

Sometimes I have to click 3-4 times on a server before I can finally join it. Weird but most of the time works.

Yeah its really annoying, you can usually tell when its not going to connect because your char sways in the background once then stops if he is going to connect. I just keep trying, trying, trying and get nowhere.

Same for me as mentioned in earlier threads… cant connect to some servers. Stopped counting after 5. They got enough slots but wont let me connect and time out.

This actually got ridiculous last night I clicked through 7 servers in a row that had less that 50 ping and roughly 5-10 players and each server failed to connect.

Then since the server I got on everyone decided to leave I had to search again and it took me another 5 servers before I could find another one in the same situation that runs.

Grrrr!!!

I am wondering if the problem “may” be that the servers which are running are not up to date. However I was under the impression the client was backwards compatible with all the server versions. Am I wrong in thinking this? If I am then it would be extremely useful to exclude servers my client cannot use.

AFAIK servers are update automatically before clients get their update.

And yes, its completely annoying!

You have to update the server by running HL update tool. I don’t think thats the issue, servers usually don’t show up if not up to date. I noticed a lot of “failed to authenticate player” coming up.
