Server browser

(Progz) #1

Hello everyone,
I would like to make this post, as I am still a bit worried, but I’m still trying to think postive about the PC aspects of the game. So, I come to you guys & SPLASH DAMAGE with this post.

Please, Splash damage, PLEASE!!! IM BEGGING YOU.

Do not, I repeat… DO NOT… Go the “Left 4 Dead” way of getting into online “dedicated” servers. Cause I have a VERY strong feeling lately, that its gunna play out like how servers worked in Left 4 Dead.

NO PC PLAYERS WANT THAT. I REPEAT… WE DO N-O-T WANT THAT.

I hope you guys know this already, but seeing how this whole campaign online aspect works, with single player and multiplayer, it seems like thats the best thing to DO. But in all honestly no PC player want that.

Why am I posting this you ask???
—Well Splash Damage did release some information about the online aspect of Brink. They did say they will have dedicated servers. By saying that, I think the public thinks, that Splash Damage, is finally answering are questions. (I, myself, was even excited to hear this news, but of course the game isn’t out yet, and I been thinking about how Brink would work about 24/7). As a developer I can see why they would go towards the “Left 4 Dead” online aspect, but for the true PC players, (meaning, if your gunna release this game on PC, don’t have the online aspect, made for consoles. Consoles are the thing that needs the game to select the servers for them. They are the casual, not the PC players.) Please, I can’t stress this enough, I hope there is a server browser (with the basic features like adding your favorite server to your favorites list.)

CONCLUSION-
-----What do you guys think about this? Personally, I think I may be right about this. I honestly don’t think a server browser is in the game. That is a “basic” feature, listing that in their lately post about dedicated servers should of been in there. I don’t see why they would of left that out. I understand, that this post here was mainly about “dedicated servers” and not about the entire online aspect but I dunno, you think they would say something about it, I mean even for Call of Duty Black Ops the developer came out and listed that as one of the PC features.

ENDING STATMENT:
I know they already shipped the game, and if Splash Damage did make the online like this, I hope they can fix it with an update for it. I hope I can get some of the community to post their thoughts on this too. So we can make sure Splash Damage, knows what we want to see in the online aspect of Brink.

Hope everything hopes well on May 10th.

Thanks,
progz

I don’t think they would do something as stupid as not include a browser. But I would like to see a screenshot of it, every game has it different. I would like to know what are the filters etc…

L4D revolved more around co-op. Even versus has just 8 players. That’s why the server browser is a little bit less downplayed, it isn’t your regular competetive shooter.

(Progz) #3

As simple as that feature might be, till this day Battlefield games have the worst server browser I’ve ever seen.

Edit: Another things, that would be also wanted are features like… demos, and spectators. Man do I hope they have at least demos for the leagues that MAKE GAMES POPULAR. Jeeze, how I just don’t get how PC developers can make a game, make it ****ty, and then aspect to make money off of it. Barely do I ever preorder an “FPS” game. **** I EVEN PREORDER A SERVER ALREADY. Thats my first time ever doing that EVER for a game. Im straight up gambling with my money right now.

Edit #2: Also, I noticed the “trend” with developers, is that usually if they don’t mention anything about a feature or something, most of the time, its not gunna be in the game. :frowning:

(DarkangelUK) #4

You’re a bit late to be requesting this, the games already on pallets ready to be shipped to stores.

(Mustkunstn1k) #5

Well, the thing with current games is that anything can be done with downloadable patches / updates. Specially if we are only talking about the PC version.

(mestido) #6

BF2 got the best server browser out there.

(Progz) #7

How can you even be a PC player, and your saying that. Your defiantly from consoles aren’t cha?

Your not being serious… right?

(DarkangelUK) #8

Your original post made you out to be a desperate kid begging his parents for latest and greatest. If you cared that much about the server browser, you would’ve been here a year, even 2 years ago making this request rather than 10 days before release. Do you think if it was like L4D they would make a day 1 patch because of all the VB code you put into your post? No.

Also, since servers can be customized, I know fine well there’ll be a proper server browser… more than likely steams. I apply common sense rather than stomping and crying shouting PLLEEESSSEEEE. But yeah, well done for arguing against my point… oh wait… you didn’t.

(LyndonL) #9

A) You’ve obviously not played many games then since BFBC2 has one of the mose efficient browsers I’ve seen.

B) L4D does have a server browser. Open console up and type op then press TAB and it’ll autocomplete “openserverbrowser” for you. Tada.

C) Seriously? … SERIOUSLY?

(DarkangelUK) #10

LyndonL: You and I know in BC2 he probably goes to Play Now instead of Multiplayer> Server Browser… as I said, no common sense.

(Daystar) #11

To be fair LyndonL, whilst BC2’s browser works fine it’s not very good compared to the Steam one (i.e. in Team Fortress 2).

As DarkangelUK said, there’s customizable servers so there’s no way they can’t have a server browser.

(At the Gates) #12

BC2’s current server browser was never so great as some people are pointing out. If any of you remember playing back when it was in beta, and even when it was officially released, the browser suffered from lack of settings, half the servers never showed up, and it took forever to get it properly fixed to what it is now.

(LyndonL) #13

The Steam one I’ve found hit in miss in some games. Killing Floor uses the SteamWorks browser and it’s not that great in there. Can’t even pick up lan games sometimes.
For TF2 it’s good though. Populates really quickly and good memory for filter settings.

BC2’s browser is quite fast and the brilliant thing about it is it perfectly remembers your settings. It’s easy to use (Cross, Tick or who cares) and it populates very quickly.

If you want to see a poor browser, play Black Ops. It forgets a lot of your settings (ie the NO DLC MAPS sertting) and quite often doesn’t display the right servers. Also it freezes all input until it populates it’s list completely.

EDIT:

I should slap you for even mentioning it in it’s beta phase. Do you not know the meaning of Beta. However when it was first released I can’t comment on since I only got it about 6 months later.

Wow, you guys are some haters. Actually if you go to my profile it says my real age, which is 21. I dont know how you thought the BF games had the best server window to find servers. Jeeze, till this day it doesn’t show the “accurate” ping to the servers. Im postive it isn’t my router. I dont know how you

Your original post made you out to be a desperate kid begging his parents for latest and greatest. If you cared that much about the server browser, you would’ve been here a year, even 2 years ago making this request rather than 10 days before release. I don’t know how my first post makes me sound like a desperate kid. Jeeze, just by look at how you type you sound like a teenager who has to take out their angry on the internet. I do care so much about the server browser so much too. I been coming to the forums a lot, just because I just made a new account just recently doesn’t mean ****. I don’t know why your hating so much on this post. I’m just trying to talk about having the best “PC exprience” on… well a PC. Whats so wrong with that? Theses are forums, to talk about Brink. That’s the point. I’m not really sure, how old you are, but I think you can’t read either considering, in my post, I talked about how I think of how Brink will be on PC. This was on of the thoughts that came into my head, that I thought was super important, to myself, and I’m sure others. Now since, you already posted them words, I can tell your VERY young, and you shouldn’t be even on a computer. Cause if you were older & smarter, you would realize why I’m posting this now. Its obvious that your not an experienced PC user, and thats ok with me. But theres something out there in technology that developers can make. Its called “patches” now I really don’t wanna type out process of how to make a patch, and what the word actually means. But google is your friend! Use it! Just because I use alot of “BB code”… it’s not “VB code, you speak of”. Oh yeah, thats another way I know your new to computers. So that’s how I came up with that reasoning, see I think my posts through, I type them, then reread them to make sure I make sense, and I have proof of what I’m saying unlike you, who seems to be hating on such a helpless little post that would benefit you and me! The first post I made, was to show the passion I have for this game. You obviously don’t see that yet. Don’t even say anything how I should of been around to say this thread 1 year ago, I’m a big fan of Splash Damage, I remember when Return to Castle Wolfenstein came out on the Xbox, thats where I first played the game. Then I moved on to RTCW:ET, now hopefully I’d be moving onto Brink! I’m glad you wrote your other posts though, now everyone can see how much of a asshole it makes you look. Your posts, are what people will judge you by.

(At the Gates) #15

Do i know you? Try to respond in a mature way.

Yes, i said beta, and while it means it was going to have issues left and right, some things were meant to be fixed by official release. The server browser issue was one of those things that took DICE some time to get it running perfectly. It wasnt always the ‘best’. That’s all I meant to say.

(LyndonL) #16

You cannot rate a game based on it’s beta hence why I said that. Anyway, I did go on to say I’m not sure about it’s initial release, but from when I’ve started playing it it’s been flawless for me.

(DarkangelUK) #17

Still lacking the common sense. You’ve been wrong on every count (including use of ‘your’ and ‘you’re’, but that’s a personal pet peeve), so how about you stick to stuff you actually know instead incorrectly guessing every step of the way.

My point still stands, and always has done… you’re FAR FAR too late to be making a request like that. Your request is immediate, not based on facts or knowledge, therefore wasn’t pointing towards future patches. Since you’re so late, wait for the game and SEE how the server browser is, then make an educated thread on the subject instead of making a whiney thread based on nothing but fear.

Did you also see how I broke my post up into paragraphs? It makes things much easier to follow, instead of trying to decipher a mess of loosely flung together text.

Right, they’d already said you can find a game set up the way you want (FF on, red glow off, no matchmaking limits, etc.). There has to be a browser with filters for these things.

(badman) #19

Take it easy, guys.

Server browser, check.
