Server browser needs better filters

Particularly worth mentioning is filter by region and filter out max level 5 servers.

I can’t just use “US” as a text filter for region as it matches “AUS” and “RUS”, and filtering by ping requires waiting for the list to load and then latencies computed for all servers.

filtering out max level 5 is self explanatory. How has this not already been done?

(Yes) #2

us -aus -rus -max

I think there should just be checkboxes for like the regions, player max lobby count and whatnot really.

Pretty much this. I can type in my filters, sure, but the things I’m filtering just feel like they should be checkboxes.

Filter Player count and Min level 10 as well.

You need to type ‘east west’ (no quotation marks). Then for gamemode add +obj -max +chapel or whatever your preferences are.

A better filter system wouldn’t hurt for sure. Filtering by region, by server type (min/max), even by map currently played. More options would be welcomed

(jonesy) #8

how about the ping filter? options are basically lan center or europe with no in between

The filter system has everything you need, you just have to learn how to use it. All that you listed is already possible.

Lets say you want all EU servers, min level 10 on the map chapel, all you need to do is type:
“Eu - min” +chapel

And make it more UI friendly is too much to ask?

You missed the point here : if an American search for “US - min”, he’ll find Australian (AUS) and Russian (RUS) servers in his list as well… Hence clown’s mentioning the addition of -aus and -rus.

Even though it’s quite easy to use after you know how to enter good search criteria, this is not user-friendly at all. Honestly, I feel like writing database requests every time I’m rewriting it. I don’t want to feel at work when I’m playing !

You don’t get AUS or RUS if you type your full region in quotes.

“US East - Obj” in quotes will find exactly all us east region servers in objective mode.

“US West - Stop” in quotes will find exactly all us west region servers in stopwatch mode.

Where + is an include and - is an exclude, quotes are an exact match.

If you type “US - min” in quotes you will not get any results besides AUS and RUS because no server string has US - min in that order except AUS and RUS. All US based servers are either East or West.

Yup sorry, totally forgot that you have east and west entering in the server name. The idea still remains that it’s an odd system, which is just a total proof of lack of finishing. Improving such a field is a 2 minutes coding work for someone and I’ve to see another game where it works like this. I’ve played online games for more than 10 years and I never ever experienced something this un-friendly for a newcomer. It’s not even explained in the game. Simply entering the begining of a server name worked right in closed beta and do not anymore…
