In my opinion Brink was a little bit better then Wolf, but not good enough to do any major gaming in.
:oppressor: ET:QW still the best :infiltrator:
Sooo, we need this authentication server, ASAP !!!

Just wondering, is me not being able to sign in after a re-install a problem with the server auth?

Yeah, wolf was worse imho. Even with wolfpro
I’m having the same problem. New comp after old one with ETQW dies. Reinstall, but unable to sign in, unable to create new I.D., unable to update game, etc. Been playing the bots, but getting bored. Humans are much more devious.
That would be sad. But at least it would be nice if they told us if that is the case.
In the mean time
I added the following rule to our Linux firewall (needed to upgrade to a 3.x.y kernel). Not sure this is final, but at least we are able to play etqw lan games over internet without vpn.
iptables -t nat -A INPUT -p udp -i eth0 ! -sY_IP -dY_IP --dport 12345:54321 -j SNAT --to-source Y_IP
(replace Y_IP with your ip address, and change 12345:54321 to your etqw port range)
Looks like guidstates.dat file is not helpful for lan games.
what’s with server, my friend yesterday installed, and can’t play. goddamn activision conspiracy.

Oooeeeeh… melting I love it when you talk dirty to me
Don’t expect too much, probably you will be dissapointed we saw that with the stats page, official forum and punkbuster.
I was disappointed with the stats page when it was still working But all with all, I think OmeletDuFromage nailed it for our situation. Ofcourse it would be nice to have it visible again the server list, but at least its working again. Maybe even better then ever since we are no longer have to worry about crappy third parties that can break the game.

IIRC you can set a server variable which makes it possible to use guidstates on LAN without having the person to authenticate over the internet first.
Two of our american members drove over to Activision in US to have a personal chat about this. According to A. all rights now belongs to ZeniMax/Bethesda, those are the guys that we should hunt down.
I will mail them and try to have them explain this matter and why they don’t want ET:QW to live.
Silence is strange but then Bethesda… no surprise there. As I said about Quake IV, I expect ETQW is undergoing rebranding and updating where necessary, I doubt any company would just throw away an asset. My guess, Quakecon time will reveal more.
Kudos for knocking down some doors though!
Recieved an answer from Bethesda today.
They say that Bethesda own the rights to the Quake Wars but NOT for the Enemy Territory part.
"My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We have escalated this issue and we have had it confirmed that this was not one of the titles which Bethesda acquired from Activision, so we would not be providing support from it.
I do not know why Activision would have told your colleagues that this was a title owned by Bethesda, as this is not accurate. It is likely that they are getting the title confused with the other Quake games which Bethesda did acquire the rights for.

Bethesda technical support."
Is it Activision that have the rights for Enemy Territory or is it Id or SD ???
Could we have this investigated and have a clear answer from people who knows what they are talking about ??
Can YOU do something about this , Badman ??? Please make a try to sort things out !!
They cleared it up for you, Activision should still be responsible for providing support for ET:QW, not Bethesda. They (Bethesda) have only acquired the rights for the other Quake games and NOT ET:QW…
As pointed out NOW times now, id own the IP (Quake universe) who are themselves owned NOW by Zenimax. SD were the developer hired to MAKE the game…

Thanks for the taking the time to investigate this further, OldWolf. This would be fascinating stuff if it didn’t concern a game I enjoy playing so much.
Here’s a link to the legal page of the Activision/Blizzard site and according to that, they still have the publishing rights to the game. It’s basically what it says on the back of the box, except you don’t need a magnifying glass to be able to read it.
I don’t understand how this relates to the announcement that iD Software bought the publishing rights for the game last year but I guess I’m not the only one that’s confused about that.
Perhaps we should start selling illegal copies of the game in the hope that some lawyer will wake up and send a “seize and desist” letter, so we finally know who owns the damn game.
