seriously? why no LAN party capability? come on already...

I agree there are alot of things that aren’t included on the console not even just the game itself, merchandise for one but that’s a totally differnt aspect of the game.

Agreed, this is an old thread to I was surprised to see it pop back up instead of someone just making a new one lol. but still, even on the important issues there’s little to no responses from SD. it seems they would rather promote the future DLC and distract people from the now.

Ah crap, sorry - I didn’t spot that bit  Or did you ninja-edit that in? hehe

Offtopic: For PC steam you don’t need to be online. If you set steam to Offline mode then you should be able to play your games without an internet connection. EG: If you’re going to a LAN somewhere with no internet connection set your machine to “offline mode” while still at home and you should still be able to start everything up. (does some cached authentication or something).

On topic: I can understand why they skipped the LAN option for consoles. It’s not exactly a massively used feature (as far as I know. let me know if I’m wrong). It does suck if you’re one of those minority cases though :frowning:

hmm when i was in school once a month we would have a massive lan party 200 kids mostly on consoles just Fin eachother up and we had like six places around town with championships and stuff and all sorts of console lan for like 10 bucks a month but like 30 enrollment fee. they would rent out huge buildings just to lan.

id say large companies do lan in general and apparently a few schools but still, not to have it is barbaric at best, even primitive, not every 1 will pay for play infact i just got xbox live after 3 years of just playing offline, oh baby it was so hard to finally get you xbox live but i will never ever give you away

Its just easier, especially on a naval vessel when were out we like to have LAN parties… no interwebz

You need a longer cable for your router…

Yeah, I think I necro-posted on this bringing it back up, but I thought since there was already an applicable existing thread there was little need to start a new one. Less clutter.

At any rate, the thing that bothers me the most is the fact that LAN for PC/PS3 and System Link for the Xbox 360 use the same communication protocols as Internet / PSN / Xbox Live play, they are all TCP/IP. The decision not to include it was a conscious one, and is in the same vein as not having a lobby system. I’ve heard it said of games that have internet enabled gameplay that adding LAN or System Link functionality only require a day’s worth of coding or so to basically make the option available in the menus and such.

Having some experience in coding myself, I find that a little bit of a stretch, but for a team of clearly talented developers such as Splash Damage (I’m not being facetious there, I mean it!) it couldn’t have been that big of a deal to add as an additional option to enjoy a multiplayer focused game. More options is always better in my opinion. I really like Brink, just wish there were more ways to enjoy it with friends and family…

Any thoughts from the devs on this matter would be interesting and appreciated.

What? no I need LAN capability.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #31

Well, the specs for console DLC haven’t come out yet but I’m really hoping they added this much need feature.
