seriously fed up with useless friendly AI

(peteXnasty) #1

I will keep starting these threads until I get a useful reply

Tired of friendly medics standing on top of my body not reviving me, tired of spectating my teammates taking single potshots out of cover against 7 enemies who gum him down with no effort, tired of my teammates grabbing the objective only to sprint into enemy gunfire totally alone, and tired of seeing my whole team lay down their guns and get cleared our of an objective room all at the same time in the last minute in defense games

YOUR team doesn’t get better in the last few minutes; your rivals do

The AI is garbage and I care so much because its all I’ve been stuck with all week

(fearlessfox) #2

I don’t see it. Been playing SP exclusively as I have it on PS3, and the AI has been handling things perfectly.

Friendly medics revive me constantly; OBJ get done if I’m playing a different class; teammates guard points with only a few running off to recap command posts.

Not sure if it’s different on other systems.

(Bakercompany) #3

Be at ease my friend, fixes to the AI are already promised by Splash Damage themselves. Rejoice!

(Shadedluck) #4

About the AI, what baker said. About the people actually TRYING to complete the objective, why are you whining about it? Would you rather them stand back just like you do, so you can lose uninhibited? And how can you comment on teammates if all you’ve been able to play is singleplayer? Just stop.

(BeyondSpectrality) #5

I have had some minor issues with the AI, but mostly due to them sucking at trying to run objectives like the “Data Key” otherwise they revive me well and give the enemy AI something else to shoot at other than me.

I completed all of the challenges including 3 stars on my first try of each one. So the AI can’t be that bad…

(peteXnasty) #6

I find on a regular basis my entire team fighting for command posts when we’re in the final seconds of a round, and I lose as a result

But PSN is on its way up right now so f the bots! Never again.

(peteXnasty) #7

A) they’re not completing anything, they grab the item and run blindly up someones gun barrel by themselves without fghting back

B) when I say teammates I mean the AI

Also a funny now, the ai is supposedly supposedto let you complete the main objectives, but I found a few times tonight me switching to the required class, running up to the target, andhaving an AI ninja the objective from me. Han.

And your threads should be immediately and expediently ignored. People who constantly complain on the forums, making threads and what not annoy me to no end. What are you accomplishing? Wasting your time? Yes.
Here my tip; Do the objectives yourself. If something needs blown up, go Soldier. If a bot needs repaired or a charge disarmed, go Engy. Its not that hard to change classes and if you want it to get done so badly do it and stop complaining about the bots not doing your work for you.
And as for bots ninjaing, cover them while they do it. You still get points. And if they die and drop the package, pick it up and complete it. The point is to cover the objective, even if your not the right class to do it.

My team is uses me for cannon fodder

(fearlessfox) #10

Yes, that’s certainly LOL worthy.

AI works fine on all difficulty settings and levels of character for me.

Funny.

You do realize in Brink, doing an objective by yourself vs 8 aimbots isn’t possible, right? On the rare occasions you have backup its ok but 95% of the time I have to rambo it to no avail

(fearlessfox) #13

You bad.

Although it is not fun playing against a bunch of bots non-stop, I can say from a lot of experience that these are some pretty smart AI. On Normal setting the enemy bots can single burst you from close range, and on my team I get buffed/ammoed by bots pretty regularly.

I have a love and hate relationship with the AI. Basically they made the AI to want YOU to be the hero so they tend to leave the main objective to you. But if its getting close to the end of the match they all rally at the main objective. I actually like this cause it does give it that Hollywood’esque block buster feel to matches. Were you struggle and struggle and struggle and then at the last moment all the cards fall into place and you pull out a win at the very last moment.

Only two things I hate about this approach to AI. They don’t take player class into consideration. So if I’m an engineer and the objective is to hack something and I’m holding down the area but the THREE operatives on the team will wait for me to be the hero. Its frustrating when you know you can only hold down an area for a finite amount of time and that time is wasted 'holding down the fort rather than trying to accomplish the objective. I wish that if the objective is to hack something and the player is not playing an operative then the operatives will make it their priority to accomplish the objective.

The other thing I hate about it is that the end game ‘overdrive’ mode is not just applied to friendly AI. Which can make for some super bs moments where you can defend the object all the way up to the final 1-2 minutes. And then all of a sudden out of no where the enemy will just becomes super awesome land if your team is not just set up right they just completely blitz their way at the last second to steal with victory.

But outside of that I actually am really impressed with the AI. Though its set up differently that most games. In most games they want YOU to be the leader so you can control the AI to some degree or they are programmed to specifically assist you rather than go off on their own agendas. This AI is the opposite of that. To get along with this AI you have to be a follower instead of a leader at times. Its annoying when you’re holding down the main objective and half your team goes to reclaim a command post. But there is a saying, if you can’t beat them, join them. Go with them. Faster they accomplish their objective faster they can get to the main objective. And moving in one cohesive unit is better than being divided.

So it in a sense is teaching you not only to constantly be aware what the main objective is but constantly be aware of what your team is doing. And to prioritize other objectives than your own but to help them out because the faster you get done helping them the sooner then can start helping you. Well its teaching you that or just to rock a heavy body type and bull rush objectives but then every team needs one person like that. So all and all I enjoy the AI. It makes matches unique. The AI is almost like L4D’s ‘director’ so no game is ever really the same even on single player. Some games make you want to pull your hair out, others make you realize how much fun this game really is when all the elements fall into together, and some give you such a rush of accomplishment that you wanna get your alpha male on and pee on your tv cause you just owned that s***.
