Self revive

(Lammert) #1

I am trying the medic with the self revive now.

One thing I notice which happened to me twice already:
When self reviving near the vehicle it automaticly mount or repairs the vehicle when getting alive.
I find this very annoying because usually I get killed when there is an enemy nearby.
When I automaticly take action to the vehicle when revived I get shot again and getting killed again.

Maybe something can be made like you have to press F again to take action to the vehicle instead of continuing the action button after revive when I hold F.

if you got incapacitated while mounted in the EV turret, then self-revive puts you back into the EV turret. if that’s what you meant?

(Lammert) #3

No, I was escorting the tank behind it. Not mounting.
But after self revive I got mounted.

If this happened more often, you need to write a bug report: http://forums.warchest.com/forumdisplay.php/53-DB-Bugs-Exploits-and-Technical-Issues

I dont like the self revive at all, but though your report sounds like a bug

Yeah, that’s a context sensitive action conflict bug. Not the only example, but it needs to be bugged and fixed.

FWIW, I don’t like self revive either, I think it should be removed, because it’s cheap and circumstantial.

%100 agree. Self revive was no good in Brink, not sure why anyone would think it would be good in Xt.

The only way I see self revive working is if it was earned over the coarse of a campaign or something. Like in etqw if you racked up enough XP during a 3 map campaign, you could earn stuff like akimbo pistols. If self revive took a crap ton of XP to earn so it was super rare… then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

i like self revive. i thought i’d hate it. but i don’t.

I also don’t like self-revive because I feel like under the right circumstances it can be very powerful. Also, with the gibbing mechanic taking SOOO many bullets to gib (body shots) I find that I’m having to empty a whole clip into a dead body just to make sure he doesn’t self-revive and kill me. Forget it if I kill two people and one of them is medic03. Sometimes, you’re not close enough or fast enough with a knife.

I already have to prioritize who/what I shoot so a medic won’t revive him/her. Now, I have to also make sure I gib the self-reviving medic before he comes back from the grave all while dodging the incoming threats from the other enemies.

These sound like very specific instances, but playing against my teammate, who is an amazing medic, I found myself in these situations WAY too often. But, to be fair, I do think the self-revive mechanic is offset by his inability to heal himself. Maybe self-revive should take a tad longer if it is kept in the game.

Sounds like instead of self-revive we need adrenaline :). Upon self-injecting with adrenaline the medic can sprint and shoot/reload for X seconds.

Does that mean because he holds f to revive, after revival, it executes the mount/objective action because he’s still holding F?

I would say 70 possibly 80% of the time, when self revive has been used it has resulted in a revenge kill.
The mechanic itself isnt bad, spawnhosts work similar in ETQW but since XT values position over aim it feels a bit cheap.

(DarkangelUK) #13

I don’t like self revive, definitely a cheap tactic.

(Kl3ppy) #14

I like it. It’s easy to avoid, just gib the medic. It annoyed me when I killed the medic with the coat and after a couple of secs he’s back and kills me. A gib doesnt give him the comeback chance. Maybe make it easier to gib with bullets, right now I’ve the feeling that the gibbinbg with bullets is random, sometimes it’s fast (couple of bullets) and sometimes it takes ages (many bullets).

Maybe add some animations for the self revive so you see he’s reviving. I’m not sure but I think right now you dont see if he’s selfreviving.

(chippy) #15

I’d say, make gibbing people take slighty less bullets and continue the discussion from that.

(INF3RN0) #16

I don’t think self revive is that cheap compared to med packs for example, however I also don’t find it that exciting either. There’s no way to call it lame if you consider how every other tool in the game works- everything would be a cheap tactic honestly.

(k1ruaa) #17

Self revive is good, it gives free kills.

(INF3RN0) #18

Self revive auto kills people now? I musta missed that. Also one time this guy threw a conc nade at me and got a free kill. This other time a guy put down a turret and got a free kill. And another time I walked into an airstrike and more free kills grrr.

(DarkangelUK) #19

Total need a facepalm smiley for times like this.

(k1ruaa) #20

I was making fun about the fact that when medics self revive in front of me, if I can’t manage to gib them, I usually kill them again instantly… Don’t know what you are talking about.
