Seeking mapping partner to help me finnish my map...

(cicero) #1

Hello!

I’ve started a few mounths ago to build a map. After some time a took a break from the mapping to focus om my real life, but now I’m back!!! And I now need one or a few partners to finnish my map…

I mainly need help with the scripting part as I don’t know that much about how to do it…
I’d estimate that the building part is at least 80 percent done…and all and any suggestions is more than welcome! As a graduated architect I’ve tried to build it as accurate as I can… that means attention to smaller details as well…

don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to contribuate…!!

Ciao!

Can you give us a summary of the map’s theme/objectives and some screenshots?

I might be able to hlp you out with the building part casue I’m not that good at scripting.
I know some people that might help with scripting though.

Hello!

I only have a few “printscreens” that I’ve pasted into a word document and there is one or two buildings missing in those that I’ve just added… that’s because I at the moment can’t compile map to make “real screenshots” as I have “a few faulty” brusches…but I’m on to it at the moment…(as with a lot of other things - please see below)

The map:

I’ve taken inspiration from where I grew up on the west coast of Sweden (I know, Sweden were not occupied during WWII but Norway was - fishingvillages looks the same in norway…well nevermind…let it be norway in the game… ).

It’s a medium sized island with an old small fishing village on one side and some trees on the other. There is an axis bunker complex on the island with an underground tunnel going from the bunker in the middle to the smaller in one corner of the island.
Allies are to steal gold (2-4 bars) from axis and take them accros the map, back to their small boats, (how many depending on how hard it will be).
I’ve been thinking of late evening or early morning as time of day.

So far, I’ve buildt buildt the whole village (unless I find I’ve missed something). That is a total of 15 houses, both boathouses and living houses. They have 1-4 floors each and it’s possible to enter every floor in every house!. There are breakable glass in every single window, some 65-80 windows total…with frames…(also breakable)… The fishing houses have correct wooden building structure, the dorrs all have doorframes…etc…
I’ve also included a smaller windmill (3 floors high), and 2 boats (one floating in village and one halfsunk just outside village). These are also possible to enter… :eek2:

Left to do is:

  • the scripting.
  • adding most of the furniture to buildings like chairs, tables etc…added some already… (- working on the rest at the moment).
  • adding some outdoor things like a few oil-barrels or so where it might look natural (- working on that at the moment as well).
  • adding some of the lights (some allready in map) etc… (- working on that at the moment as well).
  • adding some brushes to form electrical cables and so on between lights.
  • additional building where needed to make map look as realistic as possible… (- hopefully not much… )

Hopefully this will give you an idea about the map, otherwise I’d could send the map (in .map format) in a zipfile…

Yours!
Cicero.

Also, here are some old photos from 1940-1950 that I’ve used for insperation…

I’m mediocre at scripting, but I’m willing to help.

Yeah, Tom is good with brushes, especially with patches, so if you take him, make sure you have tons of patches

Sorry, couldn’t resist

Hello again… I have a minor problem (I hope)… I load my map but GtkRadiant will not show it… I loads the map, goes throu all the textures and so on in th etextfield at bottom, then it shows the map with all brusches fro a second after which it suddently changes to “new map” and "unnameed.map is written on top of screen. I can however import my map and then I can work with it, though this time ever singel brush is drawn in green lines not black…

Any help on this strange things…??

Ciao!

maybe you have no worldspawn…

(MadJack) #10

No worldspawn would either crash radiant or he’d get an error msg when loading the map.

The is something wrong, obviously, in the map. Open an empty map, go into the preferences, enable logging, load map, check log. I don’t expect a friendly error msg but who knows, maybe you will… If there’s no info about the error, open the .map in a text editor and check toward the end. Some corruption might have happen.
