Looking at the human_base.anim file there are calls on separate mdx and aninc files. I’m wondering why these particular animations were made separate from the main files. Does it help speed things up?

If you need to change 1 animation, you don’t need to recompile everything.

Maybe they were added when SD had needed to make some new anims for new features.
The reason they are not combined to the body.mdx is, as sonuk said, for easy maintainance to take care of each part rather than a combined( or so large ) one, I think.

The MDM/MDX system didn’t come online until fairly late in the project, hence a whole bunch of the animations are still in the base file. But as ikanatto says, external animations were much easier to manager and quicker to edit.
