Second Install of Wolf for Editing

(Oblio) #1

I’ve installed ET twice. To the default folder for playing and a second install for editing. My only problem is that when I want to test my maps I want Wolfenstein to open in a window, other wise I want it fullscreen. I have two shortcuts on my desktop. One goes to the feault install, the other goes to the Editing install with a few switches so that ET is primed when I get into it. After installing both I first ran my play version and set my Profile. When I started my editing install it used the profile I created in my other install. Ive checked the paths in my shortcuts and they are working properly. I even copied the profile folder from my play install into my editing install and changed the name of the profile folder and in defaultprofile.dat but my editing install still uses the one from the play installs folder. How can I change the paths so that my editing install looks to the local Profiles folder instead of the one in the etmain folder in my play install?
Thx for any help.

right click the shortcut:properties:edit the target line.

The other way you can do it is to first delete your mapping install SHORTCUT, then go to the install folder of your mapping install, find et.exe, right click, and choose, send to desktop

That I have done already and it is working right in that the play shortcut goes to the play install and the editing shortcut goes to the editing install and does the command line switches that the editing shortcut has. The problem is that when ET starts up from the editing install it is using the profile in “C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\profiles” instead of “C:\Program Files\Enemy Territory - Dev Install\etmain\profiles” It almost looks like the default folder for et to look in, regardless of where it is installed is “C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory” I want it to use the right profile for the right install because the profile is what contains information such as starting in a window. It’s not a huge issue just a convenience.

I’ve never run into that problem and I have 2 installs on my machine. Another thing you can do is edit hte target line and add +exec [config name].cfg

i did this to exec a config that sets g_gametype 2 and sv_pure 0

What would the cfg look like? And is there something I could add to it to make the game start in windowed mode? Thanks for the help btw.

m8, u change that in options/system.

actually this would help me, what cfg file do i need and what will my target line look like?

Also to keep things different will i need 2 installs?

Note i have ET in the default folder

seta r_fullscreen “0”

:disgust: Okay maybe I’m not being clear. I want to have 2 installs of Enemy Territory. I want to use one install for gaming only because eventually that will become polluted with a bunch of pk3’s and campaign map files and become generally buggy. I want to have a second install that is just for map editing so that any files that are in there are of my or Splash Damage’s doing. This way if I need to reinstall Enemy Territory because my play version is getting hinky I don’t need to run around and make sure I have all my map files backed up or need to reinstall radiant or anything like that. Now here is the tricky part. When I launch the install I want to play with I want it to start full screen. When I launch the one I’ll use for development I want it to launch in a window.
My problem right now is that if I start in the editing install and set it to window then when I start the play install it also starts in window. Just to be clear I am not trying to run these at the same time. Just sequentially. THis is because the editing install which is NOT in the default install location is using the profile in the “Profiles” folder that is in the default location NOT the one in it’s local install.
My problem boils down to this: I would like it if one would open in window and the other in fullscreen and I would only have to change the settings once, not have to go into the menu every time I launch one or the other and change the settings. It is a small thing but I like things just so if possible.
Drakir: I tried adding the seta r_fullscreen 1 or seta r_fullscreen 0 to the end of the switches on my shortcuts. It works, but only if I run it twice. That is, the shortcut for my play install looks like:

"C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe" +seta r_fullscreen 1

and the shortcut for my editing install looks like this:

"C:\Program Files\Enemy Territory - Dev Install\ET.exe" +sv_pure 0 +g_gametype 2 +cg_drawFPS 1 +seta r_fullscreen 0

This works but if it was in fullscreen before and I start the editing install it starts fullscreen as well, but if I exit out and use the shortcut again then it starts in a window. Same thing with the play install start windowed if that was the last setting, exit out shortcut again, start fullscreen. I may just give up on this. :frowning:

Ok, i got it all working, and you dont need 2 instals so delete one.

Here is a step by step guide:

  1. Copy and paste this code into notepad

seta r_fullscreen “0”
sv_pure 0
g_gametype 2

  1. Save it as “small.cgf” (Speech marks are so it dosent save as a .txt file) in your ‘ETmain’ folder.

  2. Create another .cfg file and call is “full.cfg” and copy this code into it

seta r_fullscreen “1”
sv_pure 1
g_gametype 4

  1. Create another shortcut on your desktop and call it Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory editor

  2. Open the shortcuts properties for the normal version, press shortcut at the top and you will see the target line, make sure it is were you want it aimed and add on the end +exec full.cfg

  3. Do the same for the shortcut you just created only link it to +exec small.cfg

If its installed in the defalt location, the target line for the normal version will look like this:

“C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe” +exec full.cfg

…And will look like this for the editor

“C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe” +exec small.cfg

That should be it, you will only need one installation and just 2 clicks, press ‘~’ and then /devmap placemapnamehere

You still need 2 installations if you plan on downloading maps and playing regularly. If you are a gamer and a mapper, you should always keep your mapping environment separate and clean.

Yeah but it saves space, and most of your mapping stuff wil be in etmain\maps. the final one goes in and you dont bother with it anymore!

 Thanks Nutter…I’ll use those .cfg’s but I’ll still keep two installs. I’m not that worried about space. I currently have about 130 Gigs worth of drive space in my system so I can spare a couple hundred megs.
Thanks.

Actually I’m getting the same problem I listed above where I have to start the game twice for the window/fullscreen mode to change. Unless anyone has any ideas I think i’ll just call it good.

Install it on a different part of the hard drive?
