Season pass

(SirSwag) #1

Just an idea that I’m sure has been through the splash damage office already, but what does everyone think of a season pass? Just a once off payment of say $50 to get every new merc that comes out this year, guaranteed event cases, new trinkets, and a bunch of expert and elite cases handed out regularly, with credit boosters thrown in for good measure. The idea is a fairly sizeable payment to guarantee to the developers, but generous savings for players in the long run. Just wanted to hear some opinions.

Maybe, just as long as it’s not DLC’s that cost like 15$ each for new content.

Why charge $50 for all the mercs when you can charge $130 for all of them? It’s all about the money.

(SirSwag) #4

It’s because they would have their money up front, no guesswork needed.

What about a season pass for each competitive season. $5-10 (depends on how many seasons per year) and you can keep your season trinket, get an extra tab on your statics page with all the stats of just this season, a demo pack with all your games from that competitive season. And maybe some kind of rewards for best individual / best team. I believe, this would get people really be focused on competitive, when they paid extra for it.

(gg2ez) #6

Why is that good reason to charge less? If you were SD, would you want $50 now or would you want $(Insert excessively large number here due to the fact that purchasable content can be infinitely produced) over an extended period. $500 is still more than $50, no matter how long it takes. SD is a cash cow, why do you think they’d choose to voluntarily lose thousands of dollars?

(Jostabeere) #7

What about no season passes since season passes are crap?

(SereneFlight) #8

Also let us pre-order mercs individually because hurrrdurrrmorrrdorrr.
But why to stop there? Sell map packs because fuck free maps! What if cases needed a key to open them? 5€/$ for elite case and another 5 for a key! Monthly subscription fee?

I think season passes get a bad rep. This is a chance for the developers to appeal to players that wouldn’t otherwise spend money on the game at all. It also gives players value for money. On top of this, is there really any loser in this scenario? The developers will set a price that they believe is reasonable. Players happy to buy it will buy it.

Season Passes are also a way for developers to lose money. It might work for some games, but certainly not DB.

Season pass would require specifying exact contents and a schedule. We aren’t even allowed to know which merc is next.

With the average amount of content in a season pass compared to its price, usually it’s the other way around

No m8. The season pass suggested in the OP states that all mercs released would be instantly unlocked. If SD did that, they’d be charging $50 for something potentially worth up to an infinite amount of money based on how many new mercs they make. Season passes work in games like Rainbow Six, where you can’t buy the different characters with real cash.

I was specifically talking about “other games” that you claim that offer good deals on season passes. Those that cost 29.99 and most certainly do not offer additional 50% of content compared to the base 59.99 game.

And going back to DB. Infinite amount? You need a team quite a bit larger than what SD is currently allocates to DB  I will be surprised if SD releases more that 5 mercs this year, and that includes Turtle and Aimee. Also, it’s not like merc discounts and bundles are without a precedent - bundles, black friday sale.

But I don’t really care because I won’t buy anything without seeing it first, with a few notable exceptions where I trust developers 100%. Sadly, SD is not in that category.

Obviously it’s not gonna be anything ridiculous, but the point is that the opportunity is there for SD to earn more money without marketing season passes. Besides, what experienced player would buy a season pass from SD, their chances of actually delivering are 4/10 at most.

If it was something like a pack where SD guaranteed 6 mercs to come out that year and they wanted $30 to unlock them all as they came and and threw in a few cosmetic trinkets, a few cases per month for the year, maybe a few thousand credits per month etc. it might actually be a pretty sweet deal for some people and for SD.

So I don’t think it’s a terrible idea and it could be a fairly good value for all involved depending on your situation.

(SirSwag) #16

I like this idea of they could follow through with it. Worst scenario is they don’t release as many mercs as they thought, and give out a few more cases. I can’t see this being a bad idea for Splash Damage. I always buy mercs with credits anyway.

(MvMArcher) #17

Worst case, is that they get sued.

Looking at the cynics of the thread, I’d recommend a good looooooooong vacation, from the game and the forums. Believe me, you would come back with more energy and a more optimistic outlook!
