these days the tools seem to separate the wheat from the chaff, not bad idea, imo

If anything I would say Editworld is easier than past editors like those found in Doom3 and Quake 4 and in idtech3 games.

With the reference system you can create sections of the map separately and assemble them together in the main map file which is a god send when you are working on large maps and any size map to be honest.

The main hurdle with ET:QW was megatextures I would have said which afaik don’t feature in Brink anyway and wasn’t inherently a problem with the tools only that it was new and unfamiliar feature to those who attempted them and required a lot of patience and work to get the most out of it, also the distribution of said megatextures presented a problem for mappers that eventually kind of got solved.

Other problems could have been avoided with an up to date tutorial map with matching modding wiki information for all the playzone, heightmap, command map stuff

Anyway when I first tried GECK last year I was easily just as confused as when I first tried GTK radiant some 8 years ago now.

Easier tools may equate more content but not necessarily quality content.

Yet another random BS from violator!

Just take a look at the mostly played game on STEAM, and you’ll see that most of them have ****ty SDK/no SDK at all (hello MW2)/good SDK that nobody is using, DUHHH

I had a go at GECK and didn’t find it that tricky, the only annoying thing was lining the tiles up :frowning:

Ah sorry Tony, of course its random BS, there’s 100’s of custom maps and 100’s of players playing them every week how unobservant I am… Never played any of the MW games so can’t comment on those. As I also said, I didn’t find the SDK that bad having been a Radiant user but I know it was proving hard for a lot of new mappers going by the old forums. There’s certainly a lot easier SDK’s out there, CryEngine, UnrealEd etc. SC2 editor is pretty decent too.

Point was and I think someone else pointed this out in this thread maps are a lot more complex than the days of Q3 etc. so never mind it being a steeper curve there’s just a lot more to do to get a map out. The other reason was the ranked thing of course, which probably had more to do with it than anything but thats been done to death :).
