SD Why is the SMART system so under used?

(BiigDaddyDellta) #1

I love the slide mechanic but why are there so few applications for it? There are areas in the game like the, hack room in terminal, where windows walls etc looks FRAMED to be a space to slide through into the room surprising enemies blah blah blah, but they aren’t holes! What is with that?

On the same hand there are windows all over roofs and walls in the game that should be accesible and they aren’t. Why did we not just make these higher instead of a frustrating possibly death causing distraction durring gameplay?

You can always setup a solo private match with no bots to scout these areas so you are not jumping around like a tool during a match. I admit that the SMART system was not utilized enough in most maps but there are quite a few shortcuts for Lights and even Mediums that most players do not use or know about. I’d suggest taking the time to learn these routes instead of posting a thread only proving your ignorance on the subject. If you want to find quite a few of them then watch the ‘Le Parkour’ video for Brink.

Speak for yourself, I and many I play with use SMART all the time, whether its taking shortcuts, going through rather then around objects or sliding in and out of cover in almost every single encounter with enemies. Hahahahha if i had a nickle for every times it has saved my ass or I have used it to gain an upper hand against someone in battle…

Dont blame the game for you being slow about understanding or oblvious to the uses of the SMART system and how it can give you the upperhand in matches. You play the game LAME and it will be LAME.

I love the SMART movement. To get full advantage you need to be a Light character. I use it all the time. On almost every map there are shortcuts and escape paths that you can take advantage of. It sounds like you just need to play around with the game a little more. I have the game for PS3 and took full advantage of the PSN downtime to explore most of the maps after beating the solo campaign on hard.

I will admit there are limitations to every map. This is not an open world RPG. However, the maps are much bigger than most players realize.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #5

Maybe you should read before you make yourself sound like an idiot. I didn’t say anything about the shortcuts or under utilized routes in the maps, what I said was there are places that look available that aren’t, and when I do play solo to scout I find that they are unavailable. So… way to mix up a subject genius.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #6

Wow is eveyone retarded? I never complained about SMART I complained about it uses, lol. You all need some schooling on how to pull a subject out of a topic.

I’ve been playing BRINK since day one I know exactly how to utilize SMART and what body types to use so that’s an invalid comment really.

(Glyph) #7

Perhaps if everyone that has posted is misreading your post it is not our reading comprehension that is to blame but your writing? Just sayin’.

EDIT: The title of your thread may also be at fault.

(Oschino1907) #8

Umm well you def said YOU havnt found many uses for the slide mechanic yet many others have and use it a Lot.

Dont see why you ever at anypoint thought you could go through any of the windows, never knew anyone else having that problem or thinking the windows were framed with openings. Also the ONE window from the hack room in terminal, its clearly obvious its there to shoot or throw things through. Derp!

Again really dude, you were expecting to go on top of the roofs and in and out of any window you see?!?! Its pretty clear many windows are too small to climb through especially with the size and animation of characters, and to think you should be able to reach any rooftops you want is just moronic. I guess you think its fair for lights to be able to get on roof tops and go anywhere they want in the level with almost no opposition and rain down damage from above. Kinda ruins the whole point of having a level layout and not an open world map.

And if you are pissed because YOU get distracted and die looking at roofs and windows trying to jump into/onto them well then Sir, I ask you to seriously reconsider who is the Retard is this thread because its obvious its not everyone else.

Changed, happy?

Now feel free to add something of meaning to the conversation, otherwise STFU and GTFO, no one and I mean NO ONE likes a grammer NAZI and no reason to post on forums for that sole purpose.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #11

Lol I reffered to the terminal window to slide through try looking down under the pipes not the one on the conveyor, you really think you know all things don’t you? I never said i didnt find uses, I said it doesn’t have enough application for entering scenarios.

Well, all my friends are very smart and funny and lovely people and would find everything about you to be pretty unattractive. I bet you don’t give two hoots though. In that way, we’re similar.

Oh, and I might be a little bit of a stickler for grammar but that’s better than being a crude and unintelligent lout who finds education abhorrent.

You realize that while the guy above you merely corrected a grammar mistake (perhaps an annoying exercise to you), you escalated things by assuming their intentions and outright berated them.

And now with his response, we have the beginnings of flame bait. Let’s just ignore it this time around, stay on topic and keep it civil.

I use SMART pretty often, I notice people don’t use it enough even when spawning. You can bounce off walls in many areas for a nice speed boost to get to combat faster. This is particularly true in Aquarium as Security, from the spawn you can do some cool 2-3 wall jumps in a row. By that I mean never touching the ground, mario style, for 2 or 3 hops off the walls. Works great in corridors.

Lol and you jumping in not understadning my intentions is soooooo much different, lol looks to me like i basically said if thats all he was here to do that he should STFU and GTFO. Honestly dont know of any Grammer Nazi fan clubs so please explain how people that are like that are any good when they chime in with nothing to say about the topic at hand.

Oh and sorry you dont have the same sense of humor and feel certain words
only have one meaning and one emotion behind them. How bout if you feel the need to chime in you keep it on topic and not going after me for not being in the same best friends club you guys are obviously in.

LOL and the edits are me goin back and editing my grammer as i notice things cause i dont post-read often, hope i didnt leave to much out there to be caught. muddering Grammer Nazis…

(Oschino1907) #17

Well you havnt been so specific form the start but i get what you are saying now. Still dont see why you would think you could slide under there. But going by what i feel you are trying to get at, I think it would be cool to have more areas where sliding is essential to access another way in or out of an area. I feel one reason there may not be more is because it would be hard to make it come off as natural and meant to be in the maps as I notice many maps are very much life size and how it “could” actually look.

Overall though i feel the slide wasnt meant for a lot more then those applications though, i think its other uses are more its strength.

It’s not that difficult a lesson…

Two words, not one.

Here’s another lesson… don’t blatantly troll threads without adding something that pertains to the topic. If you want to flame posters based upon their grammar then use a private message.

On-topic: I really wish that there were more routes that would utilize advanced parkour techniques. I know of a triple-jump in Shipyard and another in Aquarium. Sliding can be utilized to negate fall damage entirely, allowing for many new routes however, so there is that.

(useofweapons) #20

I’m not flaming, I’m teaching.

And yes, I agree that SMART - while being a very cool standard movement mechanic - has nowhere near enough exploitative moments in each map.

This is a personal preference more than a game-breaking worry, however.
