SD Radiant Problems

(Eagl) #1

I’m new to making maps, but ive encountered a problem that would make it very hard to design with. When I first ran SD Radiant a few times after the first install, everything worked perfectly. But then, after several times of running it, I encounter the following problems: [ul]-Curve Patches dont show up (invisible) in 3d window
-All the textures turn white
-Grid in the 2d workspaces doesnt show
-Coordinates in 2d workspace doesnt show[/ul]

These problems still occur after an uninstall and reinstall. And they have come back after a windows reinstall. And problems still occur on both hard drives.

System Specs:

[ul]A7V600 mobo
Athlon XP-M 2500+ (running at 1.9 ghtz)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb
1gb Corsair RAM
Western Digital 80gb hdd (primary)
Western Digital 200gb hdd[/ul]

Please Help! TIA!

allright i think those are all settings problems, no need to re-install radiant

-Curve Patches dont show up (invisible) in 3d window
-i dont think they are supposed to on one side. One side will be invisisble(seethrough) while the otehr holds the texture. thats normal.

-All the textures turn white
- i dont have radiant on this computer to check but its probably a texture setting, makesure its on biliniar bitmap (i think thats it) in the textures>render/render quality

-Grid in the 2d workspaces doesnt show
-Coordinates in 2d workspace doesnt show
- you hit a button, just hit the “0” (zero) button. it toggles the grid/coordinates for the 2d views

Thanks Commando, but unfortunately, it really didnt solve any problems.

I know what you are talking about (because the program was working regularly for a little while) but Curve Patches are showing up completely invisible from all angles. Also, the white wireframe that normally highlights a selected object (which u can see from the invisible side of a curve patch) is also invisible.

Sorry for not being more specific before, but textures are not only appearing white in the 3d window, but are also appearing white in the texture window. And, i have tried every render quality and still no dice. But, I’m gonna try applying textures in a simple box map and see if they still work properly in ET (I’ll update about this later).

This explains why the grid wasnt showing up, but the coordinates still wont. The coordinates are still not showing when i go to View>Show>Show Coordinates. And now i notice that the axes arent showing (only the blue “L” shape is still there, not the x,y, and z labels)

Something else to add - The program is working flawlessly on my family computer, but this is not the computer that i can spend a lot of time on as its the only one in the house with the internet.

View->Filter->Patches(shortcut Ctrl+P) hides/shows patches
View->Show->showCoordinates make sure it’s checked
Select a brush and press J repeatedly to change your selected mode. Usually the best one is red object and white outline.
Textures->Render Quality->… Sets texture display quality. Make sure you set it to bilinear or trilinear. Also Edit->Preferences->Texture Settings also sets the texture quality in the editor.

Argh, this just gets more and more frustrating. So far ive tried everything presented here, but none of them seem to solve my problems. I guess its time to put up some pictures to show exactly what I am talking about…

So first off, here is SD Radiant Open. Here i have just a simple brush with no shader on it. Notice: Axes and coordinates are missing, and shaders appeal white, also Show Coordinates is checked.

Next I applied a simple shader from Assault.

Now I go to add a cone (curve patch).

The end result:

I have come to believe that is some sort of video memory problem because when i lowered the screen resolution to 1024x768, it began working again BUT only for a time. Then it went back to working like the images above

wow, i have no idea why it shows the textures white. other then maybe the fact that they got corrupted sumhow and turned white, but the other problems seem to be radiant problems… i’m lost

Try the ‘buggy ati drivers’ option to get rid of the white textures.

BTW, I would suggest using GTKradiant 1.4 rather than SDradiant.

(Eagl) #8

The ‘workaraound ati bug’ feature doesnt help it at all, and ill try downloading 1.4 later (that should be a fun download, 34megs on 56k).

(Eagl) #9

Well, the newer version seems to be working. So hopefully I wont have the same problems.

try 34 MB’s on 28.8k, now don’t complain about your high speed 56k :stuck_out_tongue:
and I can amazingly run 2 accounts somewhat fine playing Dark Age of Camelot.

Heh, i know ur pain, but u cant blame me for complaining when there are so many broadband users around.
