SD, please answer this

(n4ts) #1

Hi SD,
I’ve asked this question in several posts now, but never got a response to it, so I thought I’d make a thread for it.
The question I really want to get answered is as following:
Can we, as alpha players, invite some of our friends (let’s say 2-3) to the closed beta so that they get instant access and we can start playing competitive right away?
Please let me know!
Cheers

i remember that at start of alpha the most expensive packages let you invite one friend to alpha .

(n4ts) #4

Yeah I know, but I’m talking about closed beta right now. To make the game more competitive right away instead of waiting till my friends get randomly selected.

(BomBaKlaK) #5

yep same here ! I’m really interested to

(Mateos) #6

If so they would need to code a single-level invite, or each friend invited could send himself other invits… And so code 2 types of members. Not sure if this is possible or even worth it

(n4ts) #7

It isn’t so hard, since they have user groups. The ones that are alpha players right now would be eligible to invite others (2-3 persons of choice) by e-mail.
So I don’t see so much trouble in the difficulty level to accomplish this.

(fragon89) #8

my friends praying to get a key to a form our clan :0
and as i remember ET. most of the community was friends who called for each other to the game

(Tankey) #9

I think the game is not ready yet to invite friends at this point. Better give them an invite once the game is more stable so they’ll likely get a better view of the game.

(n4ts) #10

And how you think you get the game more stable? With more competitive play… Since that’s the goal of SD. And when SD lets the alpha people invite their friends you’ll get more clans/teams, which eventually leads into more competitive play, more feedback, more game. Yaay

(Finko) #11

I agree with n4ts, if you want more constructive feedback, invites must be send not only to random peoples. For example, Desteny Development send keys to random guys, and you see what kind of feedback you get from them.

To be honest the scope for closed alpha went wrong when they allowed people to buy in. Yes, cash flow etc, but just because someone paid to voice their opinion doesn’t mean they should.

I am still a fan of free private invites to Alpha where only community leaders or well known game-play reviewers/personalities are nominated on behalf of their respective communities. This mostly means that each community can be represented in a professional manner (the selected person from each community can act as a comment/feedback filter).

What you see now just spending 5 minutes wading through various topics (many repeated or not nicely constructed topic/posts and I am guilty of posting about something that was already asked, so case in point!) is mostly just a lot of noise with no real substance.

As they say, the best advice, is most often free.

(n4ts) #13

I don’t agree.
The way SD is doing it right now was a great choice, because since there is a wide variety of people they’ll give lots of different feedback. Not always as well constructed as critics will do, but it’s feedback from the REAL gamers, the guys who actually gonna play the game. Not the guys who only want to criticize the games.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to n4ts again.

Opening the Alpha was the best thing they could have done after brink … Plus, if you buy in for an alpha it’s not to play the game before everyone else, it’s because you are interested in helping and really motivated (since we have to pay at least 120$ for it).

Then I think that many who bought in actually did a lot more than the “free invitees”. Look at how many posts you have done, look at mine. I don’t say quantity is better than quality, I just say that I have more interest in the game than many who were invited for free. One of these free invitees played twice in one year and never came back, how motivated is that huh ?

I think you have a problem with new comers : we don’t just “wade through various topics”. We give feedback, new ideas, created the comp scene, blocked many custom maps, created new friendships and a community, and play the game to feed ECHO. Plus, where is the “substance” you talk about when you only wrote 42 posts including the ones to complain about letting people with real motivation and positive and creative thinking in the alpha ?

And the free advice thing … that’s cheap, just like you attitude in that post.

Except if you are … No, I’m not gonna throw a name in here

Yep, like RasteRayzeR said. It depends all on motivation and interest.
I’ve seen players who got invited but quit after the first 2 weeks and players who bought themselves in which are still around and provide good feedback. But of course I’ve also seen a lot of motivated invited players and also unmotivated ones who only bought.

And by the way, haven’t you bought yourself in as well?

We’ve already had this long time ago. So what is the problem now?

(biggyyyb) #17

No you all missed my point completely. I said invite representatives from communities and fan bases only and let them manage the communications between the community and SD (remove all the noise).

Sorry if you feel like you would be somehow excluded under that model however I do not believe you would be. The whole feedback process would just be more efficiently managed.

So we all misunderstood your point ? Seems legit …

And what about new people not a part of the “community” or “fan-based” ? They cannot come and help ? They don’t have ideas either ? Or did I misunderstood that as well

(badman) #19

We want to get additional friends invites out to all of you for the Closed Beta. Not sure on exact timing yet, but we’ll let you know.

(Rex) #20

Was already done long ago.

Nice to hear!
