SD games

I am new to Splash Damage games, and BRINK will be my first game by SD. What should I expect from Splash Damage games? How is their style of games differ from that of other developers? Do you expect BRINK to be a tride and true SD game?

Any responce appreciated.

Wolfenstein: ET is a multiplayer only game that’s available for free and Quake Wars, their other game, has a demo. Try them.

(StormforceRecon) #3

I think I’ll give them a try. From what I understand, SD primarilly develops games for PC, correct? I am usually a console gamer, so I will probably suck at those haha.

At the core Brink will be a tried and true SD game, but I feel commercial motives chipped parts from the integrity.

(Seyu) #5

Both of SD’s past games are more about cognition than twitch skills, aspects which hopefully Brink will retain. Just don’t try them expecting another CoD-style fps.

(StormforceRecon) #6

I hope so. It would be a shame to see yet another gaming company fall to the growing corruption within the gaming industry.

(StormforceRecon) #7

If it was CoD style, I wouldn’t even think about buying it.

(tokamak) #8

Twitch is usually slang for cognition. Perhaps you mean cerebral vs twitch skills?

(Seyu) #9

It isn’t corruption per se, the game industry has a right to do whatever is in its best interests. It’s up to the consumer to decide what he actually wants.

(StormforceRecon) #10

Ah, you’re right. Well, more accurately then, the corruption within the gaming comunity that demands games with deathmatch modes and frowns upon objective team-based co-operative modes.

I think reflex skill is one of the facets of cognition rather than the entirety of it, no? Cerebral is too broad a term for I had in mind.

Edit:

What is wrong with people asking more of what they want?

Nothing really, until they try to enforce their playstyle in games in which it doesn’t fit the concept. It ruins the game for everyone.

Corruption is a sufficient word for this. Quality isn’t determined by a popularity vote, so foregoing quality in order to appeal to popularity with all it’s financial benefits can be called ‘selling out’ which is a form of corruption.

Media are full with this, going both ways, artists, musicians, directors who go after the sweet smell of cash and take the edges of their products, or those who plunge back into depth and accept the obscurity that so often comes with integrity.

True, true. Another aspect of games where vocabulary falls short as far as I know.

Check out the articles under my signature for some insight into what makes SD games unique.

It sounds like he’s pimping his website, but the articles are worth reading.

Thanks, I guess

Yea, that was a good read

Thanks for that Cankor

Oh, man. I love games that are at least as much about thinking your way out of ridiculous situations as they are about shooting. They’re the best.

Also, that’s a pretty cool blog, but the colors make it hard to read. : $

(tokamak) #19

You really want to give ETQW and W:ET a go then.

(Seyu) #20

What would you call the things that are popular then? and what is the value of quality if it isn’t wanted?
I am willing to concede that what that Bieber boy spews out is music if there are people who like to listen to that.
