SD fix the voip levels grrr!!!!!!!

(burawura) #1

I love this game but the lack of voip is not helping it. The ingame voip levels (s_volume_voipin_db and s_volume_voipout_db) are set to really low levels like -6 I think. Why is this SD? Nobody can hear each other talk! I’ve talked to many people now who’ve said they would use the voip but nobody else does. This tells me that if people just knew about the issue, it wouldn’t be one, but most don’t bother to browse boards to try and figure out cvars and that stuff. Better yet, add those sliders to the audio options SD…

I also think it would be a great idea along with increasing defense spawn times to increase heavy to 200 hp and medium to 160hp. Now is time for zzz.

The intent was to simulate squad command orders as if via a radio. It is an innovative idea. If you wanted to play without talking, you know whats going on in the battle field and what your teammates are doing.

Did you read my post? This is about VOIP levels, not the characters’ radio callouts. The VOIP on PC is broken because SD has set the VOIP levels to -6 for inbound and outbound, and nobody can hear each other. The only way for players to fix it is to know enough to put the correct commands in a config file. But all SD needs to do to fix it is change the default values of a few cvars… Why has this not been fixed yet?

He’s making a point, it’s not about having you do the talking, it’s about your characters doing the talking… which I think is kind of obtuse because my friend hates games with a lot of talking (Especially Black Ops, says there’s too much).

I say only keep the radio for updates as in… “We’ve taken/lost a command post” or when an objective is picked up, or happening, however having bots yell their doing objectives over the radio is just annoying… And if they aren’t going to let us have in game VOIP (for the XBox), at least give us a command wheel of some kind to say orders like, “Follow me” or “Need back up”.

That’s my 2 cents…

You guys don’t seem to get the topic.

I don’t care about the damn radio and the characters talking. I don’t care about the xbox. This is about the VOIP on PC.

Stop hijacking my thread.

I’m hoping they put proper VOIP options in the game’s options menu. Sliders for inbound/outbound, testing button, etc.

I havent played for weeks and then I played today and was excited by the game again as at its core its a teamwork game, however it would be a great teamwork game with talking teamwork !

Why voip is turned to quiet is a mystery, i think splash damage are not telling us something about bugged voip on PC. The alternative is splash damage chose to nerf voip or accidently did it ! Either way te whole situation is weird.

However if voip was fixed so it wasnt quiet and we could actually hear eachother, then Brink would be a great talking teamwork game

Roll on the next patch, next week or the week after, hopefully then voip will be fixed, then its all forgive splash damage and game on

It works just fine if you type these lines into the console:

seta s_volume_voipin_db 5 (or up to 10)
seta s_volume_voipout_db 5 (or up to 10)

But most players do not know this and should not be expected to know this.
I have a hard time believing it is intentional; I think it’s an accident that somehow has not been rectified yet.

thats a partial fix, it makes it so other people can hear you but you still hear them as quiet

a real fix IMO would be where voip just worked for everybody and you could hear everyone, on servers that choose to enable voip
