Script Mover Vrs Flamer

(Jecoliah) #1

In my map XF5U i have an elevator.

There is a problem that players pointed out to me.

A flamer can flame right through the bottom of it when it is coming down the shaft and kill players in the lift.

I tested it in third person and i can see the flame go into the bottom of it instead of being dispersed like it should but i don’t see the flame coming out the other side of it but in-game it kills the players.

I am sure it is because it is a script mover but i am not sure how i could go about fixing this problem.

Any help appreciated,

Jec

Hi

Sorry to hear that there is a flaw in your map.

I have no idea how to solve that problem for you.

On the other hand, perhaps this is common in all custom maps with lifts/elevators? (Due to the fact that it is a script mover.) I do not know.

Could you check it out? (Download and check out some custom maps and report back here, please.)

Over The Top has a lift/elevator:

(I hope this link works.)

I know my map Darji2 has a lift. Surely there must be other maps that you can test.

Also, the flamer in RtCW and W:ET has a history of behaving strange. In RtCW and the map Village:

for example, there was a wine-cellar. The Axis (who was defending) could place a flamer ontop of the ladder and just flame away down the cellar, and the flame would sometimes “jump around” and kill all onstorming poor allies. it was just like you describe above. One could not “see the flame coming…” but “…it kills”.

The props_flamethrower is strange… it flames but hurts in opposite directions so u need two of them and lots of space

try cloning the floor brush and setting it to a clip texture that works like it should, otherwise make the elevator longer?

I got it worked out.

I added layers of clip brushes to the bottom of the lift. (integrated into the script mover)

It makes the Flames disperse on the bottom surface of the lift so, that part is definitely fixed.

Some of the flame is still making it into the Lift compartment but i have minimized the effect significantly.

I am satisfied with this fix and i don’t believe there is anything else that can be done, unless somebody knows of another way that would block 100 percent of the flame.

Thanks for the replies,

do it like the clip brushes overlap with the corners of the elevator shaft, that way the flame wont escape i think. but you could crush people you didnt want to crush too so that would be a solution in some cases only
