Screenshots of my map, Venice

(chavo_one) #1

Just wanted to share a quick look at what I’m working on with everyone. Check out some screenshots on the news page of my website. It’s set in Venice, and will have an interactive tank, pak75, and motor boat.

As far as the lighting goes, I’m still tweaking the angle and strength of the sun.

Holy crap you are a mapping god.

I am unworthy to gaze upon your posts.

Awesome work man. You should be getting paid to do this as a career. Simply brilliant.

Can I give birth to your children?

looks very very nice

(Argh) #5

Well that looks mmmmmmmm better then the SD maps

Now lets hope playability will be the same as SD made then we have a winner !

Looks very cool - and it’s important to note, it’s not grey!

The makers of the Indiana Jones campaign should be kissing up to you because that reminds me of The Last Crusade a little.

(Ifurita) #11

(system) #12

look good, powodzenia!  :moo:

(chavo_one) #13

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I’m trying to work on this every spare moment I get. I even took a week vacation from work last week to get some quality time in Radiant.

Yes, the allies do attack in this map as they escort the tank through the city.

(DroPoUF) #14

omg… nice map

(BXpress) #15

well, chav one is as good as me :bump: joke

(Ifurita) #16

Actually, i had this backwards. It would be nice to have more maps where the axis were the attacking side

(Lanz) #17

Looking good.

One thing though if you can afford the tris. Try adding more details to the facade of the buildings, they look very empty at the moment.

It’s looking quite funky!

I’d agree with Lanz the facade front; some detail certainly wouldn’t go amiss. Gold Rush is probably quite a good point of reference for detailing ideas, the streets need to have a bit more life to them: sandbag areas, stacked supplies, washing lines, maybe some battle scars to the walls etc.

One other thing is the lighting, it’s looking a bit flat in areas I’d be tempted to maybe tone down the sunlight a bit and maybe stick some fake ‘subtle’ counter lights to accent certain edges. After all there are no rules that say all light has to come from the sun, and to some extent you may still need to fake refracted lighting.

All in all coming on very nicely remember it is the details that maketh the map.

Thanks for the great feedback fluffy! I am definitely not satisfied with the lighting. I initially tried putting the sun at around 9am to get longer shadows from stuff, but then the back alleys were way too dark. I guess I’ll have to play around with targeted entity lights to make those areas playable.

Also, the detail will be there. At this point I’m still building the basic house fronts. Always conscious of r_speeds, I was going to add most of the finer stuff towards the end.

coming along great! I love city maps!
