scoped sniper jumping

(opicr0n) #1

I have been shot a few times by snipers who were scoped behind cover, they did it by jumping while aiming at a chokepoint.

Jumping while scoped as a sniper should be less accurate than it is now. What do you all think?

The result of these shots are for me highly demoralizing and surreal =).

True xD Sniperdancing and sniperhopping.
There’s a game I play(ed) a game called Ghost Recon Phantoms for quite a long time (this game went full retard, you could say, the DEVs went full Pay2Win and didn’t deliver decent content at all), but the snipermechanics there are pretty effective and good, that’s to be said.
They countered this dancing&hopping by adding a certain sway to it.
I don’t know, if this is any useful in D:B.

Was this ever adressed? I see it less in-game …

(Varonth) #4

Nope, it wasn’t.

It’s fine, just get better at the game. Snipers are weak in comp.

Yes, it ought to be fixed.

  • It doesn’t make sense
  • It allows some glitchy/cheap tactics
  • Even if you think snipers are underpowered, jump-scoping is not a good way to buff them. Do something different.

  • Does crouch aim make sense?
  • Tactics are never cheap unless based upon an uncounterable meta, everything else is simply effective. For the glitchy part, you can neither violate hitboxes nor gain an advantage the enemy doesn’t have, the rest is ping.
  • It’s not a buff, it’s a basic mechanic. It would be rather sad to just throw out some random buff in an attempt to make the sniper viable.

You can compare the scope-jump with crouchspam. And i wouldn’t think you’d give the ability to crouch that fast away just like that.

lol all these people that can’t beat a vasili so they call it op

(CPTpurrfect) #10

IMHO aiming while jumping shouldn’t be possible in the first place - not for Vassili, not for any other merc.

And since this is closed beta we all just post our opinions and then just don’t back them up with facts and roll with it, good 2 go m8

Jumping in TF2 unscopes you, used to be a legitimate tactic before Valve patched it, making sniper much harder to play. In CS:GO if I’m not mistaken, jumping also cancels out scope. So, why not make it in Dirty Bomb that jumping exits scope at no penalty, allowing firing then jumping immediately as a tactic.

(R5on11c) #13

Because Valve games are not the god-given guide to game balancing. The games you listed (and i played both of them intensely) are vastly different from Dirty Bomb in terms of speed, mobility of the classes and versatility. Being flanked in DB is much faster than in TF2 and CS:GO as there are more routes and a higher speed.

Uhm… yes? I’m not sure what you’re trying to say.

Tactics are never cheap unless based upon an uncounterable meta

Sure they are! Just join the opposite team and grief them by grabbing their delivery objective to run out the timer. That’s as “meta” as you can possibly get, and it has an equally “meta” counter, which is to vote-kick them.

That doesn’t make it okay!

For the glitchy part, you can neither violate hitboxes nor gain an advantage the enemy doesn’t have, the rest is ping.

How do you know that is true? Where’s the tests or documentation?

I’m not just asking rhetorically, I truly want to know what sources exist which detail how DB has chosen to implement (or perhaps just configure) their networking settings, or whether you’ve found a debug option that shows hitboxes.

It’s not a buff, it’s a basic mechanic.

Exactly, that’s why it’s a bad way to “buff” them. If your goal is “snipers need to be better”, then “scoped jumping” is a really bad way to accomplish that goal.
