Scavenge would be a great Universal Ability.
Scavenge (on PS3)
^ THIS ^
I don’t think making it universal takes anything from a Soldier, because having Scavenge doesn’t really add anything to being a Soldier (again, mostly because the interact time to complete takes too long).
EDIT: Except maybe Medics… Medics with their already double-increased pip pool, plus scavenge, would be healing/reviving machines, and that might kick gameplay out of wack.
Plus, like I’ve mentioned in a different thread somewhere around here, the Soldier is now full on available slots from which to purchase abilities, this would free up a slot for future DLC abilities. Side note: Engineer also is full-up, but dunno what they have that’s as easily disregarded as Scavenge.
Maybe the answer is to make Scavenge a part of the Standard Soldier Kit.
Scavenge is already great for soldiers. Those who don’t think it is, ain’t a team player soldier.
In critical situations I’m the only one handing out ammo and during those situations your desperately looking for pips, so you can resupply your team.
The first part of security tower is a prime example, since the security have no command posts at the start, once you jump down from the initial spawn.
I guess I didn’t notice that I wasn’t getting a pip from those occasions.
Certainly makes no sense as one can complete a comms hack of the opponent if they get gib’d/respawn, and you can complete a disguise if the body disappears.
BTW… what the heck is the origin of the term ‘gib’? Anyone?
Gibs, short for giblets,[1] is a humorous term referring to the variably-sized body parts (“guts”), fragments, and offal produced when non-player characters or game players are damaged or killed in computer games. Adrian Carmack has been credited for coining the term “gibs”. To “gib” one’s opponents (pronounced either /ˈdʒɪb/ or /ˈɡɪb/) is to hit them with such force (often with explosives) that they rupture.
In the games of old (and still some today) when a player was gibbed; they’d burst into little bloody bits. Hence, giblets.
I used Scavenge + Ammo Resupply to help level my first soldier up to 20. You can rack up some XP with this while you aren’t kill, kill, killing!

Scavenge gets you back in the killing game faster! Love it.
Pillage the bodies FTW!
