Saved Games

This is obviously related to campaign mode: I was wondering what the saved game system will be like, especially as relates to your steam account.

My interest is that I want my kids to be able to have their own saved games apart from mine, so they can come back and finish their campaign. They don’t have their own steam account (thier computers aren’t powerful enough to run modern day shooters) , but instead use mine. In Brink, they would just have their own characters.

I am imagning that their will be separate saved games for each of your characters, and each will be able to have multiple saved games.

Correct, there are 2 save files for the Resistance and Security side of your character (the character will be able to switch between the 2 factions before you start looking for matches) and you are allowed 16 character slots

doubt it actually.
but since you can choose the mission you want to play you wouldn’t have any problem as long as they remember what mission they did last.
just make sure everyone remembers what characters are theirs;p

You aren’t going to play the whole single player camopaign in a night, so I assumed there must be some kind of saved game mechanic? I know they said you can treat it like a book and essentially open it to any page you wanted, so maybe all it does is mark your progress through the chapters (maps) like a bookmark or something.

lol, hell, I don’t know, it has single player, there must be saved games right?

I’m sure it’s going to save your level and unlockables and such.

My impression is single player will be the same in L4D. I just don’t see how else you can blur the lines is single player doesn’t play like mp but with bots.

L4D campaigns are only 40 mins long, or a bit over an hour if your new… Whereas each map being 20-30 mins long in Brink will require different save structuring since save will be important. I would think as stated it would just indicate what maps you’ve completed, and unlock the next map to try in the SP mode, and let you go to any map in the MP mode. Maybe.

not necessarily “save games” but rather a saving system wich tracks all your …achievements.
like how other multiplayer games act during online play.

all maps/missions are available from the start i believe, no unlocking required.
so the unlocks would be guns, skills and customization. wich would not require savegames, but just “stat-tracking” or whatever the appropriate word is.

imo a “save-game” involves saving a game in progress. for some reason i seriously doubt you could save the game in the middle of a fight against bots…

You can save in the middle of a fight with bots in countless other FPS games so why not?

I still think you’re right though that it wouldn’t be saved mid round.

as all unlocks and purchases are permanent, those will obviously be saved, as to progress through one particular map, probably not
