Yeah, another one of these.
Got the game today, played for about 6-7 hours, minimised game window, game crashed, logged back in, save gone.
Not good.
Is there any way to retrieve my save? Do I have to start from scratch, and if so how can I prevent this from happening again?

Don’t alt tab if you don’t want it to happen.
As for retrieving your save; Unless you backed it up, you’re screwed.

Not really a good solution. Looking for something a bit more solid than that. The fact I minimised the game window might not even be an important factor. Could be anything causing this error to occur.
Also my character data should not just be saved on my PC. It must be stored on a server somewhere. If it weren’t, that would mean I cannot ever reinstall the game / my operating system without loosing everything I have worked on, which is just insanely bad design and I can not see it being the case.
Sorry, wasn’t trying to sound rude. I was just giving a short answer. Alt tabbing can cause a crash. And crashing or otherwise incorrectly shutting down the game can sometimes corrupt your saves from what I have read on the forums.
Don’t hold me to my word but I think that character data is stored client-side, which yes, would be bad design. Until you get a tech guy to reply to your thread, I would say that you should just restart.
I know its a pain in the ass. But my characters were deleted as well. Two level 20s. I now am back up to one level 20 and a level 8. It sucks, but really you were probably going to start another character after you hit 20 anyway so its not too bad. :rolleyes:
The stuff you need i saved in Steam, it’s called Steam Cloud in the Updates tab of brink in your library. But i don’t know how you update/sync the stuff try a relog in steam maybe?

Hey no problem.
I was actually planning on levelling this guy to 20 first but doesn’t look like I have much of a choice but to restart.
Guess the silver lining is that it could have been much worse and I could have lost a lot more time and effort.
Hopeful something will be done to prevent this from happening in the future.
Sometimes there is nothing you can do about disconnects and crashes, and having to periodically back up your own save data on a premium PC game (especially an fps) is pretty silly.
Hey, tried re logging, didn’t do anything sadly.
Tried turning the cloud option off and on again but as expected didn’t do anything either.

Yeah I know, posted in that one as well but it hasn’t been updated by any staff for a bit so I figured I would make one specifically for myself. There are actually quite a few of these threads tucked away in the forums atm.
An update should be here today or next couple days. Seems like they have already found a fix for that ALT TAB issue.
It is a hassle. I lost a maxed character due to the random crashing. I was not pleased but thankfully this won’t happen any more after today (well I am hoping that is the case).
