Running the server and a client on the same PC

Trying to set up a LAN server and I need to run the client on the same machine as the server.
This doesn’t seem to be possible. Tried adding win_allowMultipleInstances 1 in both the configuration of the server and the client and it just doesn’t work.

Trying to resolve this before Quakecon 2011.

This is a short, non-descript version of my post about essentially the same problem, and it hasn’t been responded to by the community or Splash.

I followed all the available documentation, too.

this could be a serious problem with Quakecon BYOC. they only allow one node per player. thus cant bring in another computer to act as the server.

If you are running the game threw steam you can go to Viewgames > right click on brink > got to properties click on set launch options. then put the following in the box +set win_allowMultipleInstances 1 then hit ok and you will be good to go. Alternative method is to right click the Brink.exe and create shortcut right click the shortcut go to properties and then the target box should look something like this “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\brink\brink.exe” at then end of the quotes add +set win_allowMultipleInstances i hope this helps because i had the same issue

this is only for your actual brink game you dont need to touch any thing with your server

Ok that corrects the issue but doesn’t lead to the goal. Damn shame.
When Steam is in offline mode, the client prevents you from selecting any search source and you can’t connect to it by IP.
In online mode, the server doesn’t appear in the browser and you can’t connect to it by IP.
Currently the only way I see to play this on a LAN is via a listen server while all players are in online mode.

all clients need to authenticate online before they can play in offline mode
