I have amd fx8350 8core 4hgz. However i can’t get stable 100+ framerate while playing DB. I applied all possible tweaks to the engine config, turned off unnecessary graphics etc but the problem is - i get 20- fps in close combat. The less ppl on server the more fps. Is DB running well only on intel, like i7? My gpu is nvidia geforce 650 2gb, win7. Please advise thanks!
running db on amd
Most game are terribly optimized for many cores and threads. Most games are “singlecore coded or dualcore coded” (atleast that is what benchmark results reveal). This means that core speed and core strength matter more than number of cores and core speed.
Here is what matter is order:
- Core0 (first core) strength (Actual strength per MHz)
- Core0 speed (MHz)
- Atleast 2 cores
- Atleast 4 cores or 4 threads
- 4 cores and 4 threads (8 threads). This applied to less than 1% of games, such as BF3/BF4
Here is an old measuement of your CPU single core strength. And it shows its beaten by an old dual core i3 (when it comes to core strength).
It also shows that 3770k (an old but good, i7 with 8 threads), and 3570k (i7 with 4 cores) has both of them about 50% more performance/strength per MHz (core strength).

You can solve this, by:
A) Fix the problem the game has with optimization, with config settings
B) Fix both config and overclock CPU first core or all cores to higher than you have now. Just OC of 200MHz will be noticable when it comes to FPS stability. It can be noticable in benchmarks, but will be noticable to the eye, since frametimes will be smoother, when a game is CPU dependant.
C) Buy a new system, that got both single core strenths and multicore strength (4690k or 4790k)
Hope this helped.
it seems gtx 650 was my problem
i replaced it with 750 ti and im gettin stable 100 fps with low graphics cfg
btw fx8350 is very good 80% max @ 1 core
