RTCW Depot

(DeatH) #21
Do you mean this?

“E:\Dev\Tools\q3map_2.5.16_win32_x86\q3map2.exe” -convert -format map -game et “E:\Dev\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\etmain\maps\mapname.bsp”

Save this in notepad etc, rename to whatever.bat
Make sure to change the paths to where your q3map2.exe and your maps folder are.
Change mapname.bsp to whatever name it is.
Double click .bat and you should have mapname_converted.map in your maps folder.
Thanks dude, it worked!

(DeatH) #22

Well, i followed this - http://forum-thetent.getgoo.net/t5-converting-bsp-to-map-and-q3map2exe-commands

and got it to work. I’m converting this map as it was originaly without any changes like RTCW Depot 2. Purely because i have nothing better to do with my spare time. So far I’m about a quater of the way through caulking, realigning textures, I’ve also changed the train trackes from patches to brushes as they look neater.

I was just wondering what the interest would be in a conversion that is true to the original, and if any one would make changes what would they be?

(IndyJones) #23

if u re going for converting, try to convert something else.
personally, i do not have any interest in this map.

(Kic) #24

Yes what about to convert on example

Castle keep here http://www.katsbits.com/download/maps/rtcw/castlekeep.php

Mages skulls http://www.katsbits.com/download/maps/rtcw/magesskulls.php

Generator http://generator.katsbits.com/

Relic hunt http://www.katsbits.com/download/maps/rtcw/relichunt.php

(DeatH) #25

I’ve made a start on Relic Hunt looks pretty interesting too! I’ve also contacted the original author.

(Kic) #26

Ok I like castle keep

(ronboy) #28

You sometimes like to pop up out of nowhere, don’t you kat?

(DeatH) #29

Yeah, info@katbits.com asking if you’d mind a conversion basically.

(kat) #30

Oh, that’s why I’ve not received anything, you sent it to katbits and not katsbits.

Not sure why you want to convert single player levels to multiplayer, that never works because the design of the levels are built around two completely different sets of game mechanics that don’t do too well swapped about like you’re trying here. You’d actually be better off making your own maps from scratch influenced by the design of something rather than trying decompile someone elses stuff and jury-rig that up, that way you build the correct and appropriate mechanics into the map from the ground up.

@ ronboy: yes… I sneak where necessary and leave furballs for people to find

(IndyJones) #31

just because map was made for single, it doesn’t mean it won’t work on multiplayer. the map can be divided into stages (destroy A, capture B, escort C etc). the further allies goes, the more axis go back until they are finally ‘pushed off the edge’, if u get my idea.

on oasis there are like only 2 stages, first, breach the old city wall and then just destroy anti tank guns.

(kat) #32

MP and SP gameplay is split the way it is for a reason otherwise it wouldn’t be done - and Brink isn’t an exception to that ‘rule’ either (because I know that will be quoted in this sort of a discussion).

(IndyJones) #33

it all depends on the map, and how objectives/spawns are planned. after all, fuel dump is a snowy multiplayer version of rtcw single player map (and it has been barely changed, when it comes to design).

for example in new battlefields the maps are pretty huge, but they are divided into segments. after one objective is done, further part of terrain is unclipped (or untriggered, cause if u moved out of area, u had few secs to return or u were dying). this might work in et, if it’s planned well.

(kat) #34

OK, well let me be specific… none of the maps Kic listed above will work as MP levels, I know because I made them  If you want proper MP versions of those maps they have to be designed from the ground up with that in mind.

(Kic) #35

I dont agree Kat I agree with Indy . I tried castle keep and maybe it wants another little isle and some objectives and it can be interesting multiplayer map.

(DeatH) #36

Could i have the original source files for Relic Hunt as i can see the potential to turn this into a MP map. I’ve looked at the decompiled version and with 1 or 2 extra routes i think it could work very well.

Also, my bad with the e-mail…

(kat) #37

@ Kic: that proves my point… ;o)

@ DeatH: in a word “no”… you have to earn those editing stripes soldier!

(.Chris.) #38

I think Kat knows his own map, plus he is from Yorkshire, so don’t mess.

Like Kat implied, have a bash at your own map, if you really like elements of castle keep, try replicate them (don’t steal) into your own work and add all them extra bits you think are needed to make nice map.
